That's the first one I've seen with 4 degrees between numbers. I have Fermometers on a couple of fermenters and they are only 2 degrees between numbers. I find that on those if I have 3 colored like your picture the center one is the temp. Based on your picture I would say your temp is 65 but I would get a Fermometer to get a more detailed reading.

I will definitely order one of those. At the time when I was getting grain I saw the one I have on the shelf and remembered I didn't have one on hand.

You don't read those things. They are a good idea but don't work so good, as you can clearly see. Truth is if you need to know the temp of the beer you need to grab a sample and measure it. You can also use an infrared thermometer, but that isn't as accurate and wil only measure the surface temp. Still close enough. The LCD strip is a waste of time. It will become unglued soon enough anyway.
    Cheers.

2 new digital thermometers are arriving today from amazon so LCD problem will be solved. Just wasn't sure if there was a trick to reading those ones lol

The 'trick' is that green = the temperature of the fermenter's contents. Not a difficulty except for perhaps folks who are color blind.

My personal experience is that the Fermometer is pretty accurate. I have stored water in my bucket for an extended period of time and the Fermometer reading was exactly the same as the ambient conditions as measured with an accurate Thermoworks digital thermometer.

    Cheers!

Make sure to clean the spot underneath with some rubbing alcohol before attaching the fermometer and it will last as long as your fermenter. Simple, cheap and won't result in introducing oxygen when checking.
