So after my mounting beer collection took up my closet, I decided to make the plunge & found this guy used on CL. About 5 cases & bombers later I have my collection under temp control, so excited just wanted to share!

Put the most precious bottles in the back, corked beers laying down, & a bunch of drinkables from trades stuffed towards the front. My Bruery vertical finally has a shot of making it!

    Congrats!

I hear though (although I am not an expert) laying down corked beer is not a good move.

Looking at this post, I want my own beer cellar!

Isn't a real cellar an actual cellar? Nice unit though.

Interesting, I'll look into it, thanks!

True, except not many houses in CA have basements so have to resort to closets & wine coolers. What I would do if I had a basement, the beer possibilities...

I feel spoiled with my basement, I couldn't live without it.

A good start. I always like to keep a hotd in my possession so I'm liking the Adam I think I see

Not exactly true. There is much debate about this, but the idea behind laying corked bottles on their side is to make sure the cork doesn't dry out out. Many breweries (most notably Cantillon) adhere to this method.

Just contacted RR & they recommended storing their corked beers vertical so I guess that's what I'll do w/ my RR beers.

Thanks! HOTD has always done right by me. Hiding my Partridge in the back to never see the light of day til 2020 lol. Also can't wait to drink the vertical in 12.12.12, that should clear out plenty of space for other goodies.

You don't need more space in that one! You just need space to get another cellar!! Isn't it nice to look upon row after row of beautiful bottles?

I hear those things too, even read them occasionally, nonetheless, I think like many things about beer, its simply a matter of opinion.

I recently started drinking some "experiments" (i.e. common $4-5 stout/porter bombers that if they turned to shit, I wouldn't be out much) that have been laid on their side for 2-3 years at room temperature. Keep in mind, these are beers I bought like Noah's Ark, i.e. in pairs. Drank one fresh. Laid the others down on their side in a wine rack I kept in the living room. The average high temp where I live is 93 degrees in July. The A/C is only on if I'm in the home.

    So far:
    2 beers improved
    1 was neutral
    1 was worse

    8 more "experiments" to go.

Haha it most definitely is! unfortunately no more cellar space unless I move which will hopefully happen sooner rather than later!

Sounds like a great idea, at least now you know of two that are better stored that way, maybe even more when you finish.

Thanks! I've got a couple PiapTs in the way back, rochefort 8, 03.03.03, barleywines, & age able RISs. Was surprised to find out I still have half a case of 09.09.09s which I've loved since the release. I've gotta find a local bottle share to take some of these drinkables to as there's just way too much!

I think it's a 50 bottle wine cooler give or take. Having the cooler has given more closet space & much less worrying about my stash. Highly recommend picking one up

Consolidating your stash? This beer thing has gone too far, young lady! Next you'll be sampling verticals or something crazy like that!

Waiting for this as well. They take up so much of what little space I have in my "cellar"

Nice collection and love the fridge, looking to pick one up myself with the built in digital temperature control. What is the make and model of yours?

It's a Vissani 50-bottle, Model# MCWC50DST. I still have to buy a thermometer that'll measure temp / humidity & give me 24hr temp /humidity averages to double check efficiency. There are some great deals on CL if you're looking for something affordable.
