Any beer that is easy to get instantly becomes shelf turds. If Pliny the Younger was available at BevMo it would be received similarly to a bottle of Purple Haze.

I'll be giving it a try...Rebel wasn't bad, hell most of what SA makes is actually pretty good.

I don't consider myself a beer geek so maybe that's why I'm more open minded about SA. I'd rather consider myself a BA. Is there better beer out there to drink...yes, but SA has it's place. If you get enough nerds on any site to bash anything they'll all start believing their own ignorance. Same with the hype...a handful of self experts does not make you anymore believable except to the adolescent clique that you participate in.

    Haters hate, drinkers drink.

SA was my bridge craft brewer. I don't hate em. But I was very disappointed in Rebel IPA. Would probably choose almost any other SA offering over Rebel.

Damn, I'm far from a Rebel fan, in fact I thought it was ordinary........at best and very forgettable. Still, I wouldn't call it trash. I'd drink it over BMC (is that really saying much though??).

Still, I am excited to try this one. I like Sam Adams and I like a lot of their beers, so this one I'll give a try. Hopefully I am pleasantly surprised.

In the Beer Geek Nation review posted above, he has an advance release of the beer as well as some marketing material and he does state that it will be sold in six packs for a suggested retail of $8.99. I'm really hoping that to be the correct information.

I didn't think Rebel was a bad IPA, but there are so many better options, especially of that style, I really didn't see the point of buying more than one six pack of it. I'm also happy to see that Cold Snap will still be around. It seems to have gotten mainly mediocre reviews, but I thought it was very drinkable, and early spring was a perfect time for it. My two cents.

I will check this out. Rebel was ok but not as "west coast" as Sam Adams made it out to be. Looking forward to trying this one though. I always like to check out more beer.

I'll definitely be trying this one. SA makes good stuff.

I've never really hated on SA, as my ratings would show, and will likely pick this one up as well. I don't usually expect to be "wowed" by them, but I do enjoy the fact that for the price, they are right smack dab in the fat part of the "style curve" with everything they make. Not extreme or ground breaking, but not horribly off either (usually). Sure, this one won't be Pliny obviously, but it will probably be a decent DIPA. That sums up how I feel about all their beers. It isn't as good as "X" but it's decent tasting and priced very well.

Correct. Double Bock will be available in 22's in February or thereabouts.

I disagree. Making a beer like Heady Topper or Pte is NOT THAT EASY. If it were, there would literally be "100s" of Heady Topper-like beers available. It's like saying a guy is the next Michael Jordan. You know it isn't true because there is only one. And while there's more than 1 great IPA, that misses the overall point.

What Koch is loosely referencing is the fact that hops can cover up a lot of off flavors. He is implying that subtle, more nuanced flavors (and by definition, styles), are more difficult to brew. The fact that he is arguing that beers that are harder to make are therefore better to drink is both outrageous and illogical, but never mind that.

Hops do not all possess the same flavors. Not every Double IPA is "piney" as you put it, nor are they are they all dank or equally fruity. Make the same base beer with Citra and another with Columbus and get back to me. Then go do it again with Dana, with Fuggles, with Hallaertau, with name your hop. They are vastly different. Go and select the water profile too, because the hardness of the water, the alkalinity, etc. all change how the hop flavor and aroma is perceived, as does the malt.

I would add that if making a great IPA were easy, Sam Adams would have done it by now. And while I'm not saying Rebel IPA is the worst IPA, i don't think anyone here would argue that you can stand it next to Heady Topper, next to an Alpine IPA, or next to any IPA in the top 100. It wouldn't even compare.

Rebel was not memorable, but I gave it a try. If this is on tap somewhere, I'll probably give this one a go, as well.

I can't bring myself to call Rebel an IPA. To me, that beer is a decent pale ale.

Have you tried Boston Lager or their Octoberfest? Both are extremely drinkable and well made.

I find myself doing this time to time, looking for every new beer I try to be a spiritual experience and change my life forever when really, that's not a sustainable expectation and is generally impossible. It's easy to get tied up in the hype and in a way it's a great thing because I feel it does push Brewers to be more innovative and experimental, but sometimes it's nice to just have a decent 7/10 beer or two and relax without trying to melt your palate.

If every new beer that came out redefined the style, craft brewing would quickly become a very stale dick-swinging contest. "When everyone is special, nobody is."

I'm expecting RR to be a decent DIPA, given the assumption that it will be maybe more approachable and also much more widely available in a smaller timeframe. Rebel is OK in my book, definitely not my typical go-to but if I'm going to a party and only have time to stop at a crap beer store, I'll take that over a case of Corona any day.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed rebel IPA. Boston Beer Co. has been doing this shit a long time, and while their beers are hit or miss occasionally, I will always give a new one of theirs a shot.

I try all SA beers. Rebel was OK. I hope New Rebel will be better than OK.

Pretty sure rouser and rider are two different beers. I had both.
