    Hey guys -

Quick question: Does anyone have experience in using a bottle stopper/resealing devices with 22 ounce bombers/750 ml? I have a few dessert-esque beers in the cellar I can't imagine getting through in one sitting, and I'm wondering if those rubber stoppers/corking devices do an adequate job of keeping the beer fresh for 24-48 hours? Longer? Shorter? Thanks!

I use a stopper from a bottle of Eagle Rare. It'll usually keep a beer good until the next day.

I've never let a bomber sit after opening; don't think I'd trust it with the air left in the bottle, regardless of the integrity of the stopper. Share it with a friend.

Thanks for the input, all. I usually don't let bombers sit after opening either, but I was thinking 24 hours might be alright given the quality of the stopper...perhaps I'm incorrect though.

Not saying you're incorrect, just sharing that I would hate to lessen the quality of a beer I think highly enough of to want to save, by saving it and having a disappointing second showing. Others who know better than I might agree that a stopper on a sturdier beer may keep for 24 hours.

I've never opened a beer with a view to stoppering it midway through for the next day, but there have been one or two occasions where I've had to out of necessity. And the beer was drinkable the next day. But best avoided if possible.

I used a stopper on ST Creme Brulee and Chokolat...good beers, but too rich/sweet for me to kill a 22 by myself in one sitting...the only thing you'll lose is some carbonation over night, and some of those big beers are not really affected by a lack of carbonatiion...at least that's what I tell myself

Letting a bomber sit upon opening is risky business, as nothing really does a substantial job at preserving the intactness. Nonetheless, and if you must, give this a shot

I have a bottle capper and spare caps. For 750 ml bottles there are plastic corks you can get at a home brew store that will work fine. On the other hand I am big and usually have no problem finishing off a bomber.

My sister bought me these, I have used them a couple times and they worked as intended.

Have you used them to 'save' bombers for drinking 1-2 days later? I so, how did those saved bombers taste?

    Cheers!

I haven't used them for storing a beer more than a day. I usually don't open a bomber if I don't plan on drinking it in a sitting/night.

The times I have used them I didn't really notice any difference.

I use my vacu vin rubber wine stopper and then suction the air out. I have found the beer in bomber bottles is still fine the next day with no noticeable lessening of carbonation when kept in the fridge overnight

Heavier beers (like imperial stouts, barleywines, etc.) I don't really care much about lower carbonation. I just put a stopper and finish the bottle next day - although this doesn't happen often. I usually kill it!

I have used these guys in the past (tried to resize smaller, but not working for some reason)

Sometimes, if I am drinking a big beer alone I will use one in between pours to maintain carbonation. In the few instances when I have used them overnight, the carbonation level had definitely dropped the next day, but had not completely gone away. I'm sure any beer would be hella flat after 48 hours, though.

Thanks, all! Much appreciate the advice. I assume a simple recapping of the beer would be horribly ill-advised, right?
