Receiving beer in MA from the UK

    Hello Traders,

    I'm hoping to get an answer or maybe a resource that can help me understand if I can buy some cans of beer (8 cans) from a brewery in the UK to be shipped to Massachusetts. I know the shipping for the brewer will be about GBP 40 plus cost of the beer. I also understand the beer may get banged up a bit during its journey. I'm fine with that, I just want to support the brewery and feel like getting some beers is more fun than just giving to their Patreon or whatever.

    So does anyone have any experience with this or know MA's policy on it? When I look online (UPS, FedEx, etc.), I keep arriving at rules on SENDING beer through the mail but not on receiving. Any insight would be great. Thank you!

    Afternoon,

    I don't have specific experience with MA, but i have sent eight boxes from the UK to US with no issues.

    I have used three services Royal Mail (Like USPS), FedEx and UPS. All arrived in great condition.

    The boxes were sent to Ohio, California and Idaho.

    For what it's worth, most of the legislation relating to shipping alcohol i found, was heavily tailored to wine, but for example, Ohio allow out of state manufacturers to post beer (alcoholic beverages in the text) directly to customers (didn't specify if it's CONUS or International though).

    Unfortunately, i have only sent goods under the radar using risky descriptions (i.e. Craft Collectables, Collectable UK Soda, Craft can Candles), which have been fine.

    If the brewery are willing to send direct, then it will hold a bit more weight as most hold a license to ship internationally, they will complete the paperwork, issue an invoice and use their courier service.

    Curmudgeon, what was the outcome? I've traded, with connections made through this site, with three guys in the UK, and things went generally well. One of my trading partners had to pay some duty for a box that I shipped to him, and one box sent to me took a long time to get here, but, otherwise, everything was great.
