Always nice to have a thread dedicated to visiting breweries new to you! Good, bad, indifferent, share it all here.

I have become increasingly a fan of Notch and the awesome beer they serve at the brewpub in Salem. I recently was 'close' enough to Schilling to swing by for a visit, and it was really wonderful. COLD, but they have multiple fire pits that were just warm enough. The beer was great, winner for me was the Hefeweizen. I didn't try the food, but being able to have multiple half pours while sitting in different parts of the campus (2 buildings and some common area in between) was a great winter experience. Can only imagine what it's like in Summer! Easily comparable to Notch, and obviously Notch will win as it's not a 2-hour drive away!

The food is solid there. I love their pretzels.

There’s two excellent restaurants in that little downtown. And you can always pop over to Mt. Washington to make a weekend of it.

Went to Long Live yesterday. Their IPAs are so impressive, they remind me of early Trillium a lot (at least how I remember it). Place wasn’t dead which is good, they deserve to stick around Boston for a while.

Visited several New Hampshire breweries in recent weeks. Post & Beam in Peterborough was a very cool location, historical G.A.R. Hall, built in the 1830s. Enjoyed a Baltic Porter and a stout. Saddled up to the sprawling Lost Cowboy Brewery for chili and a pale ale afterwards.

It’s a great spot with some amazing IPAs. I really want to like it, but they really need to branch out. When I visited a few weeks ago, their tap list was literally 18 NEIPAs, one pils and one stout. I need some variety if I’m going to visit regularly.

that's very much the same memory I had when I was there a year ago. IPAs, DIPAs, and Night Witch.

Untappd has them at 15 IPAs on tap rn, 1 lager, 1 pilsner, and the always-present Night Witch stout.

Yeah I think variety would do them good. I don’t think it’s that unreasonable to specialize in one thing, but a couple more options would be good. I remember them being pretty hyped for their pastry stouts too, was a bit bummed none were on tap. (That said the on site markup for bottles was only $2 - would have done it if I thought I’d be there longer.)

Did an in and out can pickup at Red Clover in Brandon, VT over the weekend. Cool, small space in a cool looking small downtown. Wish I could’ve stayed for a beer. Picked up Green Heron and American Redstart IPAs. Both really good in that hazy but not milky VT IPA kind of way.

Got a chance to go to Brewery Silvaticus last week as well. Nice small little tap room,6 seats at the bar and tables around. Beer was good, unfortunately was out of the Smoked Lager at the time which was excited for. Atmosphere was fine, no frills. The 'food' was lacking at best. I'm closer to Notch, and as much as I love a great European style brewery, I dont see myself returning to Silvaticus anytime soon.

I had the Winterfest (Marzen) and Trigger Hoppy (Pale Ale). Both were good for the style. Did I miss drinking a beer I should have?

Their Quintessential Pils and Oblivion Black Lager are excellent. The latter is one of the best Schwazbier's I've ever had.

Their Sovereign is also excellent, but I really dig their Rex Czech Pale, it's super impressive for 3.7%.

In the summer their Hefeweizen is a must.

As with any brewery, I think you need to visit a few times, and I typically ask around these forums what are people's favorites.

That's something I even do at say, Tree House, which obviously garners tons of praise on here for multiple styles. I've been there a couple times and had two random beers and thought, "Eh, I don't get what all the hub bub is about".

Then I've been other times and had my mind blown.

If you visit again, I would absolutely at least try the Quintessential Pils and Oblivion Black Lager. I typically don't get their Pale Ale's or hoppy lagers since I'm not really there for that.

I agree with the 5 beers you suggested at Silvaticus. I'll add Oktoberfest when it's the season as well. I live in the Portland area and would rather drink at Silvaticus than any spot here. Also, tough to compare the food options from Notch and Silvaticus. Silvaticus doesn't have a kitchen and that's why most days there is a food truck. If not, just go to Rusty Can and fill up before Silvaticus.

There's a tex mex place my buddy who lives in Amesbury raves about too. But yeah, Rusty Can is a must. I think they have a food truck at Silvaticus on Sundays?

Yes, they had a food truck every Sunday at the brewery last summer. Hopefully it returns this summer. It seemed to be a huge draw. I'll seek out the Tex-Mex next time I'm down.

I’ve been able to attend a bunch of events at breweries lately. Mostly on Marlborough.

started doing Monday run club sometimes at Lost Shoe- fun staff and decent selection brews good nice decour.

did Bonsai Bar at Flying Dreams made a cool little tree and like their style list enjoyed the brews. Weird space dark vibes but nice bartender.

my friends band performed at Tacklebox. Big space pool tables corn hole darts etc. nice place for event. Beers subpar

did trivia night at Rushford & Sons in Upton Had a blast good pizza truck out front beers pretty good made lots of friends at a bustling Wednesday night during the cold spell.

Went to Lord Hobo last night Saturday with the wife and kids. The pizza is great, and the beer is really good too. Had a good double IPA and wife had an IPA from Lone Pine (which they have recently banded together with). Crazy, it was 2:1, kids to adults! As I said, I added to the ratio, but man some of these kids were just running up the walkway and or spreading across a full communal table. Please, enjoy the brewpub, but beating an old bush in saying look after your kids! I felt horrible for the few adult couples huddled at the bar trying to find space from the tablets and shenanigans.
