    Kinda sloppy research, re:
...yet then goes on to note that Manhattan got it's start when:
Rheingold's crosstown Brooklyn competitor, Schaefer, also distributed in NYC, even having the rights to AB's Budweiser and Michelob,. In the 1970s Guinness also setup a NYC area distributorship, Metro, wholesaling Guinness, Harp and US brands like Schlitz, Schmidt's of Phila. and Pabst.

The Crain's article then goes on discuss how Anheuser-Busch, currently Manhattan's largest competitor, is the second largest distributor in NYC. :astonished:

Not mentioned specifically in the piece, Brooklyn Brewery also owned a wholesale distributor, self-distributing Brooklyn beers as well as other brands (including Sierra Nevada, Rogue, Grant's, etc), before being distributed by Phoenix Beehive starting in 2003.

And, of course, well ahead of the DoJ, ABInBev and MolsonCoors has already announced that the SABMiller brands and US breweries will be sold to MolsonCoors way back in November.
