Recent Quality Control

I didn't care for Gotswhatsitcalled either when it first came out. But a little age on it and it changed into something better. Viking metal blew me away. So good. Tasted like a completely different beer.

 

OP, I had the same kind of discussion in the Southeast forum regarding TN breweries. If it makes you feel any better - and I'm assuming it doesn't, or at least shouldn't - this is a national phenomenon. The sweeping trend that is craft beer has overtaken many peoples' tastes in the last 3 years. People everywhere are heavy on the "try anything" bandwagon, and that's one reason bad beer still sells. Another is the growing collectivist mentality, which is strongly evidenced by Kickstarter's popularity. The idea of "supporting the craft beer scene" is largely as popular as the beer itself. This comes not only from these small instances of collectivism, but also from a skewed belief that local is better. Yeah, it's great to support your neighborhood brewery...

I also agree with the many points about tastes and palates. But we always have to account for the fact that the status quo is the biggest segment of the population. And in this case specifically, they are the most powerful. So if mediocre (or worse) is what sells, then mediocre is what we'll continue getting.
