i am new to home brewing and have not progressed to all grain brewing. Any recommendations on conversations to extract brewing in regards to malt extract/grain steeping etc...
A rough conversion would be 6# of DME (Dry Malt Extract) would be 10# of base malt. This will vary a little brand to brand and what you'd expect your efficiency to be if you were doing an all grain batch. I'm going to recommend that you stick to a pale dry malt extract DME. It's a clean slate. You can add specialty grains to your desire to make the batch of beer you want. It stores well and you should have some extra around the house anyway Top off on miscaluculations For making yeast starters to build yeast count for other batches It won't stick to the bottom of your kettle like LME and doesn't burn. It's worth the extra buck. Stay away from LME and dark malt extracts.
