Hello all....I have a ton of hops in my freezer and I need a recipe suggesstion. I am a huge fan of IPA's and want to make a hop forward, citrusy, fruity IPA/IIPA. I have the following for hops: 2oz Summit 2oz Nugget 2oz Amarillo 2oz Motueka 3oz Cascade 3oz Citra 4oz Simcoe I am open to all recipe suggestions. It should be noted that I am an extract brewer brewing a 5 gallon batch. I usually use DME with specialty grains. Thanks in advance!
Light DME with a half pound of crystal malt for the malt bill...to about 1.065 OG. Options are almost endless with those hops. Bitter to about 50 IBU with the Nuggets 2 oz. Simcoe @ 15 2 oz. Amarillo @ 5 DH with 2 oz. of Citra. American ale strain for yeast.
Something I like to do when I have tons of citrusy hops laying around is a malt soda. Mix up DME/LME to about 1040, boil with hops to ~60IBU and add tons of late additions (aroma is great!) Cool and place in 2L pet bottles, carb with carbonator cap and be drinking it once its chilled. really great drink on hot days of summer, nice malty sweetness with a ton of hop flavor and bitterness
I have never heard of this before. You don't use any yeast at all right? Does it maintain that malt extract flavor or does that get covered up by the hops?
No yeast, basically its sweet wort that you carbonate and drink the same day Here's a link to when I originally had this idea, it has a recipe I used (ended up slightly too sweet) and a pic
