Any good bars or bottle shops to check out? Any beer in special? I'm going to be in the Friedrichshain area
I was only in Berlin for four days, so I'm not going to be a lot of help on this. However if you're doing the tourist thing, the Hackesher Markt has a Weihenstephaner restaurant that has all of their beers on tap except for Vitus and Korbinian, which are available in bottles. I believe there was a restaurant serving Schneider Weisse near the Neue Synagogue, but I haven't been able to find it online, so perhaps my memory is failing on that one. My wife and I walked around Friedrichshain a bit and really enjoyed it. Lots of good ethnic restaurants that are not available in many other parts of Germany, if you enjoy that sort of thing. EDIT: You may find this thread helpful: http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/what-beer-from-berlin.3161/ Enjoy Berlin!
If you're in Friedrichshain I really recommend Hops & Barley at Wühlischstr 22/23. I've been in Berlin a couple months and it has turned out to be my favorite brewpub and has very nice beers that fuse traditional German styles with newer twists -- usually American hops. I Agree with the previous post that Hackescher Markt area is also worth visiting for beer. Send me a beermail if having a hard time finding places or want to meet up. cheers
I found this site really helpful when I was in Berlin for a couple days last fall. I enjoyed Brauhaus Mitte the best of the places I visited. You definitely need to get a Berliner Kindl Weisse and try it with the different syrups.
