So, I'm looking to do a tasting of funky beers. Some sourness is okay, but I'd like more to focus on the brett. I'm just looking for some recommendations on this because there are a lot of saisons, for instance, that aren't particularly funky (eg. Ommegang Hennepin).

I got a pretty solid funkiness from Rayon Vert, which also might be interesting to include because it's different from a lot of other funky beers.

As I'm putting my list together, I'm thinking exactly this.

Love Buzz is also definitely on my list, and Orval is a must.

Srsly, can you elaborate about Rayon Vert? (Although I might grab some for myself anyways; a ton of it showed up around here recently).

Id find a friend or to share that Jolly Pumpkin with. I love Brett and sours, but a whole bottle by myself made me hate sours for a few days.

I can see that. I'd recommend sharing any 750, though, particularly ones with lots of flavor and/or new flavors to your palate (or high ABV).

I've heard lots of people compare Rayon Vert to Orval, though I've never had Rayon Vert.

I thought it smelled pretty hoppy, but I tasted a bunch of brett/funk out of the back end (... ). I liked the hop profile, and the brett definitely made it interesting. Most funky beers I've had have been saisons or other Belgian styles, and I guess Rayon Vert technically is too, but for me the main flavors were hops and brett.

I also thought RV was excellent, a really hoppy Belgian pale (a la Mischief) with a noticeable hit of Brett and just a bit tart. It's drinking damn good fresh but I need to age some like they recommend if I can manage to hold onto some, I'm excited to see if it turns into something more reminiscent of Orval.

    In general:
    Orval
    Anything Jolly Pumpkin
    Fantome Saison
    Lost Abbey Carnevale

Once, I found a Girardin Geuze White Label which was more funky than sour and truly delicious. But I never got to try it again, so I can't be sure it's always as funky as that.

Not sure if you can find bottles on the shelf still but I would say Ommegeddon.

Don't mean to threadjack, but can you kind folks explain what the big deal is with funky beer? I had a Passionfruit Berliner Weisse at Hunahpu Day and it was all I could do to chug it down, the funk was so strong. Is it like stinky cheese? Super-acquired taste? Teach me!
