Saison Brett. My favorite funky beer of all time.

Several year old orval, and rayon vert, but have not had rayon vert aged so it wasn't that funky, but showed potential funk.

Saison Brett is a beautiful, funky beer. Orval (with some age) is also a good funk-fest. While not so wildly available, Victory Wild Devil is a BIG funky brew. Anchorage Brewing beers are all brewed with Brett, so you cant go wrong there.

    Happy Funking!

Incidentally, we don't get Boulevard around here, but I'm pretty sure I've seen a good bit of Wild Devil. Thanks!

Don't worry too much if you don't like them, it definitely took my some time to like them and I certainly don't like them all, just follow your taste. Orval or Petrus Pale Ale are good starting point that won't overwhelm, and then before you know it you'll be hunting down geueze like a fiend. A good stinky or sharp cheese always goes great with a funky beer too. One of the things that helped me really appreciate funky/sour beers was researching the process and chemistry behind them, it helps you see where the complexities come from and the effort it takes to make a great one.

Anything aged with Brett usually does the trick. A year is usually plenty.

Also as mentioned, Fantome and Jolly Pumpkin are two that really spring to mind when the topic of "funk" comes up.

Allagash Interlude or Confluence are easy to land and qualify.

I really liked Anchorage Love Buzz. Check it out if you can still find it.
