Lots of good recommendations for German brewed Hefeweizen beers. Assuming you can obtain them fresh that is a great way to go.

Stoudt’s makes a tasty summer seasonal of Heifer-in-Wheat. Since it is the end of the beer summer season I am unsure if this beer is still available. Maybe the OP could buy this beer next season.

    Cheers!

Dry Dock in Colorado makes the best US Hefe I've tried. GABF Gold. If you want to trade for a few, let me know.

I heard Andechser recently came to the U.S. and was poured at some Beer Weeks around the country and special events. I had their Hefeweizen in Munich and it was awesome, as well as their Doppelbock. Anyone know if you can purchase bottles of Andechser at any retailers in the States?

Fat Heads Goggle Fogger. I am not sure if they bottle it, but I enjoyed a growler of it my friend brought back from Ohio.

IMO there are tons of great hefewiezens you can get easily. Most German ones tend to be good and Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr even have convenient freshness dating. Weihenstephaner could be the best of the bunch if you like fruity esters. If you like earthier and spicier notes, Schneider actually exports 4-5 different versions and they're freshness dated, too. Franziskaner seems to be the "standard" Munich weissbier and is pretty common over here, too.

In terms of American ones, look no further than Live Oak, Sierra Nevada Kellerweis, or Dry Dock's Hefe.
Have a BJ's or RAM restaurant in your area? I know they're chains, but theirs aren't bad and they'd certainly be fresh.

Second the Dancing Man. We have had it side by side with the Weihenstephanerand it was tough to tell them apart. The German import has wide distribution. For New Glarus, it's Wisconsin only and seasonal to boot. Glad we live close enough so a Wi beer run only takes an hour!
