I'd like to ask my NYC BA friends if they could recommend a good place in mid-town Manhattan for places that feature multiple beers on tap? My wife and I are spending this weekend there and would love some "beer lovers" suggestions!

I was impressed enough by the Guilty Goose to recommend stopping there for a beer or 2. The brunch looked excellent, but we only had drinks when I was there.

I love Rattle 'n Hum on 33rd Street between Madison and 5th. 40 taps.

Also love Beer Authority, which is right across 40th street from the Port Authority (SW corner of 40th and 8th Ave)

Try the Ginger Man (11 E 36th St). It's a dark and cozy tavern where I first tried Goose Island's Bourbon County stout on tap when I did one of their beer flights.

Beer Culture in Hell's Kitchen (W 45th betw 8th and 9th) is a great spot. Not a ton of taps, but you can pick any of the 1,000 or so bottles they stock to consume in-house. Beer Authority next to Port Authority has a great selection of drafts as well. Draught 55 (E 55th betw 2nd and 3rd) is another standout, though I personally haven't been (just heard great things).

Pony Bar in Hell's Kitchen is another standout. Valhalla on 54th and 9th. If I think of some more, I'll repost. Definitely echo the Ginger Man comments.

I second Ginger Man. One of my favorites.

Agree on Ginger Man. Can't go wrong with any of these places. Just as a teaser, according to beermenus.com, here's a few items on tap at those places currently:

Rattle 'n Hum: FW Union Jack IPA, Ballast Point Victory at Sea, Cuvee des Jacobins Rouge, Bruery 6-Geese, Founders All Day IPA, Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, Stone Ruination IPA, SN PA, Southern Tier Pumking and Unearthly.

Ginger Man: N'Ice Chouffe, Chimay White, Duvel, FW Wookey Jack, Founders Boiler Maker, GF Le Freak, Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence, Sixpoint Gorilla Warfare, Duchesse de Bourgogne

Beer Authority: Founders Breakfast Stout, Victory at Sea, 6-Geese, Chimay White, DFH 60, Union Jack, Founders Pale Ale & Porter, Goose Island BCBS, Great Divide Yeti, Jolly Pumpkin Oro de Calabaza, Kuhnhenn All Hallows Ale, Kuhnhenn Dark Heathen, Maine Peeper, Sixpoint Resin, Southern Tier Choklat, Stone Old Guardian (2004), Stone Sublimely Self Righteous, Duchesse de Bourgogne

Man, am I thirsty on this cold, cold, cold day.

If you can, swing through Brooklyn and hit Tørst.

OP - we want to make sure you hit as many of these suggestions as possible. Can you give us a little more info about where you're staying/planning on visiting i.e. landmarks or museums? We can break it out by section since the midtown area is pretty large.

You shouldn't feel bad about that! This is, after all, what BA is all about, right? I go to NYC 2 or 3 times a year and I'm curious myself because so many things are opening right now that I can't keep up!!!

To add to the fantastic places already mentioned, if you're going to be in the Greenwich Village area, the Blind Tiger on Bleecker is a must. Small, but always good selections on tap.
If you're down on the Lower East Side, Spitzers Corner is good. Not as good as those mentioned already but they have decent food and the tap list is usually a sold B, B+. Right next to the Houston St. Whole Foods to if you want stuff to go.

Rattle n Hum is my favorite bar in the city. More of a laid back vibe. The Ginger Man is also great, but a little more sophisticated, white collar bar. I love both places, don't get me wrong, but I prefer the laid back vibe a little better. Both bars have very good bartenders also.

Should have added that RnH and GM are both a very short walk from each other, so you have no excuse not to go to both and make your own determination. The GM is on 36th just east off 5th Ave. and RnH is on 33rd just east of Park. Literally a 4-5 minute walk.

Edit: not the greatest place by any stretch, but if you're north of the Bowery section, Taproom 307 is alright. I believe it's on 3rd Ave. in the lower 20s/maybe teens area. Me and the missus went there once and il they had great food (the Cuban was ridiculous) and they had decent enough taps to hold my interest. Again, probably a B-, maybe a B, beer wise.

If you can venture further down into the lower east side, One Mile House is my personal favorite. It's on 10 Delancey St, and the staff there is frickin' fantastic. They have 10 permanent taps (to cover all the basic styles) and 20 rotating taps. The decor is awesome, and it's not usually as crowded as the "famous" mid-town spots are.

The funniest thing about this thread is if it were 10-15 years ago, the first (and one of the relative few) bars I would have mentioned was the Peculiar Pub on Bleecker by Thompson but now it doesn't even occur to me.
I cut my teeth in that place, big time. Now, I would go in just for the SnGs. Still, gotta give credit where it's due, it was one of the first NYC bars that had good stuff.

    Hahaha...I'm old now. Smh

If your going to go to the East Side (shop at Bloomingdale's big store, 60th Street and Lexington Avenue), you might want to check out The Jeffrey Craft Bar & Bites, 311 E 60th Street, just east of 2nd Avenue and next to bridge. If you go late, you'll see a crowd outside a club further down the street, Sapphire New York, Gentleman's Club but no craft beers so don't get distracted .

If you're heading there, you might as well go one block south to Randolph Beer on Broome St, just west of Bowery. A couple of months ago they had bottles of KBS and cans of Heady for $11! Not saying that's the case now, but they might surprise you. Looks like a nice place to eat too.

I second One Mile House. It's quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Though it does help that it's along my subway line home. Always a great selection there and never outrageously crowded, except when there are bigger shows at Bowery Ballroom.
