One of the reasons I occasionally go to RateBeer is to see the calories per bottle of the beer I'm going to buy. For people on any kind of plan/diet/calorie counting, it would be a nice thing to add to BeerAdvocate as I fully enjoy this site and forum more than RB - I just use that feature quite often.

    Thanks!

The calories tend to be depressing. I just run more and assume I've got it covered. It is amazing, I'll go to Starbucks and see the calories on the pastry and think, who would do that to themselves. Then I go home and consume the equivalent of 5 of them. Awesome.

Haha, I know - but there are a lot of people out there that DO care how much is in it, and having it at the place you go to for 99% of your beer info/banter would be nice.

Lots? I doubt that very much. I'd wager it's less than one percent of the beer buying public and at the craft beer level that puts it into the negligible amount range. Far better for calorie counters to look it up themselves.

The only problem is that info is less than accurate over there. I don't like guessed at information on anything.

They just use a formula. 30 x ABV.

Edit: keep in mind those calorie amounts are for a 12 oz. serving size. The actual formula is: (oz)*(ABV)*(2.5) = est calories. The 2.5 is just a constant multiplier that I'm pretty sure was averaged from empirical data for calories vs alcohol content. Thus for 12 oz servings, the formula simplifies to 30*ABV.

Tectactoe - that is very helpful info, and the Hayden is a plus. I did know it was per 12 oz tho.

All - didn't know it was such a loosey goosey system over there, nor did I know the ramifications to the masses in adding the digits to the reviews. No biggie.

Yes, exactly. What I really wish is that nutritional information was required of all brewers. Then it would be helpful to have on the website. But RB's stuff is just a general guess so it's less than useful except as a vague idea.

I'll take you up on that wager. Name the price and I'll start the poll.
