Going to be in the Burnaby area for a few days this week for a hockey tournament. Looking for recommendations for breweries, bars, restaurants and or liquor stores in the area. I am a fan of IPA'so and big stouts. Thanks in advance

Hmmm they don't make IPA or Stouts, but Dageraad is the best brewery in Burnaby. They do very, very good Belgian style ales. Anno 2016 just came out. They also have a quad gift pack out still I think.

IPA - looks for cans from Twin Sails, Yellow Dog, and Superflux.

If you're in town for a few days there's quite a bit in the area though, or on your way there at least. You can now take the Skytrain to Port Moody from Burnaby, almost direct to Brewers Row, which is 4 breweries Twin Sails, Yellow Dog, Moody, and Parkside. TS and YD being tops to visit. You could also take the train around to Steel & Oak in New West. Really depends where you're staying if it's walking distance to a train or not.

Nobody in BC makes a really great imperial stout imo, especially if you're coming from WA and used to what you can get down there.

I'd stop at Four Winds Brewing on your way into town, not too far off the 99, kinda in between the 91/99 depending which way you go.

Burnaby is pretty big so there's prolly a few liquor stores with decent selections. Bainbridge liquor store should be pretty good, you'll likely find Modern Times there at least. High Point liquor store is just off the #1 on Hastings towards Vancouver. There's also Steamworks Brewing which has a pretty good tap room at their brewery location in Burnaby. Try the Flagship IPA. Oh ya they just released a BA Stout too. There's also Bottle Jockey liquor store.

I'd say Howe Sounds imperial stout is pretty solid, although I can't think of any other BC brewers that even make one.

well there's at least 13 or 14. Most, if not all, of BC's best beers do not see distro. I've been told the Main Street Stag Pheasant release was quite good. There's always Peche Mortel from Quebec around too. The other thing is most BC Stouts aren't bottled compared to what's on tap. Strange Fellows Borris has a few version out in bottles now. Moody BA RIS might be around, or coming out again. The Steamworks as mentioned but maybe brewery only. Bomber cans one that was actually really nice first batch. Brassneck doesn't package theirs. Twin Sails might have one coming out in the next few weeks. Driftwood Singularity won't be out till January. Storm does Black Plague again not packaged and very up and down. Bridge did one or two. There's a few more, but they always seem a bit tentative and light/thin bodied to me. Just bring some KDS up with you

Haha yeah fair enough, this Alberta boy probably doesn't know what he's missing.

... just be aware that Dageraad's tasting room is pretty small and bare bones.

Ya, tasting room actually = a couple picnic tables in the actual brewery space lol. But I think they're expanding soon.
