I'll be in Dayton from Oct 27 to Nov 7 and am all ears for recommendations in Dayton, Columbus, Cincy and as far away as Indy...looking for your favorite bars (with great eats) and bottle shops. Tough to narrow down on my own from the searches.

Also, if you want to meet up for a beer, I'm down.

    Cheers,
    Ryan

I hear there's a new and growing beer scenes in Dayton and Columbus, but I don't know too much about them.

I would strongly recommend the following:
Cincy area - Jungle Jim's in Fairfield.
Indy - Sun King. Bru. Brugge.

Avatar says it all. Equidistant from Dayton as Indy, and you could stop in Columbus on the way back. If you so decide that is a possibility, let me know. I've got some stuff in the fridge I'd gladly share with you

For bottle shops Belmont Party Supply in Dayton, Jungle Jim's in Fairfield, and the Party Source in northern Kentucky. I don't know Dayton restaurants as well but can give good recommendations to Lucky's Tap Room and Chappy's Tap Room

If you're willing to go as far afield as Indy from Dayton-Cincinnati-Columbus, then hit Weasel Boy as Keffa said and also Jackie O's in Athens. Depending on where you're coming from in FLA, both of those are kinda sorta on the way.

Not real familiar with the Columbus scene but I've had some offerings from Elevator and they're pretty good. Also, friends rave about Saaz in Delaware, slightly north of Columbus.

I'd second the above recs of Chappy's, Lucky's, and King's Table as really good bars and also suggest South Park Tavern and Pies and Pints as well. Belmont is the best bottle shop in the area, but it's sometimes worthwhile checking out Centerville Carryout and Arrow Wine as well just because some of the harder to find stuff flies off the shelves more quickly at BPS thanks to its deserved reputation.

There have been lots of new microbreweries that have opened in Dayton in the past 2 years. Yellow Springs Brewery is probably the best in the area and the one I'd recommend to visit above all else, though I like Eudora and Toxic as well. Warped Wing is Dayton's largest brewery and is a really cool spot to check out since it's in an old industrial building, but I don't enjoy their beers as much as the above 3.

Moved to FLA from Dayton last year...

Dayton: Belmont Party Supply, Chappy's, Lucky's
Cincy: Party Source, (surprised it hasn't been mentioned already), Rivertown Brewing, Rhinegeist Brewing, Hoffbrauhaus
Columbus: Ohio Tap Room, Columbus Brewing (Bohdi DIPA... yum!)

EDIT: Agree with Jungle Jim's in Cincy too...

Thanks all for the recommendations. I'll actually be flying from Pensacola and have a rental car, so I'll be mobile. Also plan to check a 12-shipper on the flight, so I'll bring beers to share and need some space to fly back. @Keffa I'm pretty sure I'll be available to meet up, especially the weekend of Nov 1st.

Hit up Belmont Party Supply for sure.. ask for Gus.

As far as bars, Trolley Stop has a great selection in Dayton.

See if you can score some of that Jackie O's goodness... Dark Apparition, Rum Barrel Oil of Aphrodite... they've always been great to me as an out-of-towner, and Gus is always down to trade.

Dayton- Bars: Kings Table, Pies and Pints, Chappy's, Bunker's, Lucky's, Trolley Stop, South Park in that order.
Shops: Belmont- no need to go elsewhere. And I am pretty sure Gus is in charge of their new, yet to be opened, endeavor Ollie's. I never see him at the bottle shop anymore.
Breweries: Yellow Springs, Eudora, Warped Wing in that order.

Columbus- I will defer to exact spots to people that live there, but try to get some Bodhi and Creeper. Ohio tap is a great place to get local growlers.

Cincy- Jungle Jim's for bottles, Rhinegeist for brewery.

Indy- Bars: Twenty Tap and Hopcat
    Breweries: Black Acre and Brugge
    Bottle shop: Kahn's

I live in Beavercreek, which is an eastern suburb of Dayton. King's Table and Pies and Pints are located there. I am more than happy to meet for a beer at either place at the drop of a hat. I will also be heading to Indy to pick up my Upland bottles during the time you are in town. You are more than welcome to take a road trip there with my group if you want.

Well, November 1st is Fright Night down at Weasel Boy, which I will most definitely be attending. It's a blast. Some good beer, costumes, likely a special tapping (which I'll have to find out what it is this year, last year was the Dark Weasel Mint Chocolate Stout and the Barrel Aged Brown Stoat Stout with Cherries), and music. The pizza kitchen opens right at 4, if you're hungry. I'm likely going to head down about 6 or so.

Do they allow folks to bring a few bottles to share?

Technically, no. However, I'm sure that I could work something out. I do share beers with Jay and Lori all the time. I shared a Black's Dusk, a 32oz growler of La Folie, a Mosaic Promise, and a Blackheart with them last night/this morning, whatever you want to consider it. If it comes down to it, I live less than 2 miles from the brewpub, and there's more than enough refrigeration to keep them.

Thanks for the detailed response. I will definitely be in for a beer or 6 and perhaps the ride along to Indy.

I certainly have an interest to go to Jackie O's and Weasel Boy as well.

As we get a bit closer, I'll BM my cell number to the guys in this thread who said they would like to meet up.

In and around Cincinnati, I'll second (or third, or fifteenth) both Jungle Jim's locations - Fairfield and Eastgate have great bottle selections. The Party Source in Newport, KY, however, has a positively insane bottle selection - the single bottle section alone is roughly the size of a Wal-Mart wall. They've got their own brewpub in the back as well, though I've never tried it yet.

As far as bars go, there's not really one I'd recommend driving all the way to Cincy for, aside from going directly to brewpubs. If you can find any place that has a Triple Digit beer on tap, though, give it a go!

For a unique and unforgetable beer experience: cincinnatibrewerytours.com

This is a tour of Cincinnati's breweries from the early 1900's---and you'll see how the stored beer in the pre-refrigeration days----there's a whole new world under the streets of Cincinnati. The tour usually begins in the Morlein Tap Room (not to be confused the Morlein Lager House)----then a 4 block walk to Rhinegeist Brewery.
