You could do IP trades no shipping required.

Are you ever near Richmond? Hardywood Park has some tasty BA stuff but I don't know that it's sold outside of the brewery.

Blue Mountain makes several Barrel Aged beers that should be pretty easy to come by in VA. Dark Hollow is probably the easiest to find. Starr Hill also barrel ages their Cryptical stout, but it is neither easy to find nor cheap (and not all that good IMO). I would highly recommend looking for Weyerbacher Heresy when it releases in late winter/early spring. A great example of a BA Stout with a price (~$9/4 pack) that is hard to beat for that style. If you are new to the style, it is a fun experiment to grab a base beer (Weyerbacher Old Heathen) and the barrel aged version (Heresy) to see what the barrel adds.

Cheapest high quality bba (porter) I know is framinghammer. It's about 5-6 bucks a bottle (500ml). Which is a fantastic deal. But, you won't find them in VA. They come out in mass in march though and I'm sure you can trade for a few.

I have had the same question recently. I sorted though the stouts, imperial stouts etc. list but it would be nice if the barrel aged versions were separated out or indicated in some fashion.

There are a few that make a regular Imp Stout and a BA version off the base. The Imp version are on the shelf, the BA ones your on a call list or you might have to know someone. Depends on where you live, but generally your not walking in and having to make a decision on what BA Stout to buy, and all the barrel aged versions say so it's their selling point.

Kbs, bcbs, parabola are the best imo.

All those are great if you can find them. An easy way is to use Founders Breakfast stout and about .5 shot of your favorite bourbon....Boilermaker

I looove barrel aged stouts and you mentioned that you loved bourbon as well. BCBS is the best (IMHO) of all of the ones I have tried. It is my favorite beer in the world and I seek it out every year although it is not easy to come by. I believe I have the past couple year vintages in my cellar and would be happy to do an in-person trade since I drive from GA to VA once in a while. Since you are in NC, you might be able to find Barrel Aged Sexual Chocolate from foothills. I've also heard good things about Red Brick 20th Anniversary but not sure if that makes it to NC or VA. There's tons lying around the Atlanta area and have to go pick some up to try myself.

I will absolutely most definitely tell you you'll never ever see a Foothills BA Sexual Chocolate just hanging around. Brewery only release.
