Recommendations for Grand Rapids brew...

    A friend is visiting from Grand Rapids, this weekend. She wanted to know what beers to bring down. What are some good ones that aren't widely available in Georgia? I know GR has some great breweries, but besides the common Founders' brews, I'm not familiar with any. I prefer ABV at least >6%, enjoy IPA's, Porters, and Stouts. TIA.

    I know there's a lot out there but in my opinion, nothing beats a fresh growler of Founders Red's Rye...

    Also, any of the Short's 6 packs she can find. Depending on where she looks, could probably find Strawberry Shorts Cake, Spruce Pilsner, MMMkay, etc

    Haven't tried it yet, but I can't imagine it would disappoint...Founders Dissenter. A growler of that sounds pretty tasty. And 2nd the 6'ers of Shorts. You're not going to find it in GA and their recent releases listed by schepelz are damn good.

    No growlers are being filled. There are still bottles in the general store though.

    I'll agree with the Short's recommendations, and I'll add that anything from Brewery Vivant is going to be good. Their beers are Belgian inspired, and very tasty. Greenbush also puts out some great beers. If you like the flavor of citra hops, then Odd Sides Citra is a very good one.

    If your friend is from GR then she may know the best stores to visit, but in case you need recommendations, I think Siciliano's is the store of choice for most visitors to GR, and probably for most residents too.

    Agreed! Depending on what you're willing to spend I would have her go to Siciliano's because everything they sell is by the single and you get a case discount for 24. They should be able to build a case for her based on your likes.

    Off the beaten path I would get a can of Blackrocks 51K and Arbor Mr. Delicious if they have it.
