    Hi folks,

So, a buddy's wedding is coming up and he gets a kick out of huge bottles of good beer. I thought a big bottle would make a nice pre-wedding gift for him, as a bunch of us will be getting together the week before to celebrate. I was wondering what suggestions people might be able to make on beers that are available domestically in 1.5L or larger bottles. We have previously shared large bottles from Ommegang and also the 1.5L Chimay Blue, but I was hoping to bring something different. The only bottles that I have seen in Colorado so far have been 6L bottles of Val Dieu and 3L bottles of a Belgian tripel whose name escapes me at the moment. I hear St. Bernardus comes in large format bottles, but I have yet to see any. I'd like to be able to purchase the bottle locally, but if anyone has great ideas for something else, I'd also be willing to try my luck on the trading boards. Thanks for the help!

    Cheers,
    Boatshoes

Mile High has a couple different 1.5L belgians at the moment. There's also a 3L 121212 there. Throw up a post in the mountain forum and see what's on shelves around town.

I hear the subtleties of St. Bernardus are really accentuated when the serving method is "administered from a giant bottle while the taster is on his knees."

Double Bastard 3L are around $85-90, and the 2 I've seen on shelves are leaking through the swing-top.

are they leaking or was it just foam-over from the bottle filler when they closed the swing-top?

Beer manager said they made a mess when rested on their sides...

Good to know about the Stone bottles, as I'll have to drive the thing cross-county. Think I'll give the mountain forum a shot and see what's around, seems like belgians will be the most available. Maybe I can snag a Bernardus.

I opened a 3L of Samichlaus for my wedding in 2009. Makes an excellent treat, and you know it'll give you a hangover if you drink enough.
