I'm taking a quick day trip up to the bay area this Thursday. Looking for recommendations for Hazy and Brut IPAs, BA stouts/porters/others and pastry stouts. I'm flying into SFO and either staying the night at my friends in Half Moon Bay or driving back to Los Angeles.

Goals: Best case scenario would be to get cans or bottles to bring home as well as some pours.
If not that then it would be good to find a bar or restaurant with a great tap list.

The 2 places I want to go to so far are Fieldwork San Mateo and Cellarmaker. What else is in the general area or on the way back to Los Angeles that are a "must visit"?

    Appreciate all input!

if you have some more time in San Francisco, toronado always has amazing beers on tap. City beer store is a block from cellarmaker and has a killer selection of beers and an amazing tap list. Oakland has Temescal as well as Fieldwork.

On your drive down, hit Humble Sea in Santa Cruz if you can, it's making some amazing beers. Then there's Alvarado St. Brewery in Monterey that, imo, is pumping out the best hazies in Nor cal. I'm originally from the OC and hit Monkish a lot, some of Alvarado's best releases have been close to Monkish. You can usually find plenty of alvarado cans / beers on tap in the city though if you're taking the 5 down to LA. Feel free to PM me and I'l be more than happy to give you more details especially locations in San Francisco !

On the Alvarado St, they also have a Salinas location that is right off the 101

Not sure why there's this impression that we have Brut IPAs all over. While most breweries have tried to make one (maybe once at most), the only place you will likely find it when visiting is at Social Kitchen & Brewery, because the head brewer invented it.

That being said, if you're going to try one, it's better to try theirs (Puttin on a Spritz) than most other poor attempts at making it.

No, Brut IPAs are generally not available in cans or bottles.

Not gonna recommend any brewery stops, but the ice cream place two blocks down from Fieldworks San Mateo is pretty bomb.
