    Hey All,

Heading up this Friday for football weekend at Rutgers. Wondering in any BAs have advice for best bars and bottle shops in close proximity to campus in New Brunswick.

Will be driving up from DC area and plan to stop in Philly for bottle shops and Tired Hands. If there are other recommendations for can't-miss places along the general route, along I-95, please feel free to share.

    Thanks in advance

Here's a thread you can check out. Would have been hard to search, without knowing it existed, but I recall responding to a similar question a little while back...

Here's the relevant portions of my response in the other thread:

Seconded on Marketplace. Apparently they've upgraded/moved their location (haven't been there in a while) and they have a good selection.

I use to work at Marketplace and they have moved to a larger location. They lost their beer manager for a few months so there was a decline but they are back on track to full restocking everything and being larger then they were before.

As for some of the places listed, deff check out Harvestmoon in New Brunswick. Kyle does some great beers and is totally worth a stop. As for bars check out the Old Bay for some solid beers on tap, World of Beers for its obvious selection (but deff don't eat there, i have never had food worth what i pay) and Stuff Yer Face. Skip the George Street Tap house, its an odd place that has a limited selection. If anything go to Destination Dogs as they have great food and a solid selection with a few local beers on tap. Also check out Clydz for a martini if that is your thing.

Do Kane or Carton if you have the time but skip Hearthstone as the beer they make is not worth the trip. They do have great prices and fun random stuff on draft at time but like i said, not worth the trip. Of note though, they do make an awesome pizza called the Magic Pie.

Hope this helps and deff try a fat sandwich..personal fav is the Fat B*tch.

Thanks everyone for taking time to reply. Plenty of great info. Looks like a fat sandwich is in my immediate future.

    Cheers.

    1. Where are the Michigan fans tailgating? I will be in the black lot.

    2. Bottle shops:

Marketplace in East Brunswick on route 18.
Wine World in East Brunswick on route 18.
    Petrock's in Hillsborough.

    3. Bars in New Brunswick:

Destination Dogs (check this place out, well worth it)
    George Street Ale House
    Old Bay
    World of Beer
    Stuff Yer Face
    Harvest Moon
Brother Jimmy's is kind of expensive for drinks but it draws a good crowd and has a decent beer selection

    4. Off the turnpike:

Flying Fish Brewery is off exit 4 on the turnpike

Have fun on your visit, and don't take our fans too seriously we just love taking the piss out of people

Stop at State Line in Elkton, MD on the way up. Their online beer listings are usually up-to-date so you can save time by pre-shopping. Make sure you sign up for their Club Card.

PA bottle shops tend to be expensive but there are a few brewerys that you will not see in MD.
