    Cheers fellow BAs.

I'm heading down to Houston for work this week from Philadelphia and I'm looking for any recommendations you might have for me in terms of breweries to check out, beers to lug back home, bottle shops, and most importantly BBQ restaurants. I have a rental car with me so I'm not opposed to driving a ways.

Thanks in advance for your help.

11 Below Brewing is basically in the Willowbrook area. Check their tap room hours cause I am not sure if they are open everyday though. I don't think there is much more for breweries or beer bars in the area (unless you consider the chain BJ's Brewhouse something to consider).

There are a few Specs around that area for bottle shops/liquor stores, but not all are created equal, some can be great and some can be meh for selection. Not exactly sure which ones to recommend on that part of town but I seem to remember the one on Interstate 290 is pretty good and should have a good selection of locals for you.

Off the top of my head, beers to bring back:
Lone Pint Yellow Rose (Check bottled on dates)
Saint Arnold 5 O'Clock Pils and Pub Crawl Ale
    Live Oak Hefe and Pils
I'm sure I am missing a lot more...and will update when it hits me.

BBQ: The Brisket House is legit, on Cypress Creek Pkwy/FM 1960 and should not be to difficult to get to.
If you want to travel just a bit more, CorkScrew in Spring is up there as one of the top places in the Houston area, if you have time do that. If you can get to Spring, then check out Hop Scholar, probably the best beer bar in the area.

Thats all I can think of for now...unless you want to go close to or inside the loop then things get way more interesting. Hope that helps a little.

Oh, and not a beer bar, but should have one or two things that are worthy. Peli Peli is a fantastic South African restaurant with good happy hour on drinks and food. (regular dinner prices are very high) If you can swing the price, I would honestly do that over BBQ though.

I am in the Willowbrook area, and unfortunately the breweries around here are not open much during the week. 11 below is open the following days and they usually have a food truck.
    Thursday 5–8PM
    Friday 5–8PM
    Saturday 12–3PM
Lone Pint is only open Saturday 12 to 4 pm
Whole Foods which is at the corner of Louetta and Cutten road has a pretty good taplist.
There is a burger joint called The Shack which has a very respectable list. I was there about a week ago and they had several Bourbon barrel aged beers on tap for around 10 a pint, yeah that is right no small glasses here. I think they had several variants of Karbach BBH. Burgers are solid. There are 2 locations, I think the one at Telge has a better taplist 12710 Telge Rd, Cypress, TX 77429. If you are looking for room beers or stuff to take home, the best selection is at Total Wine which is right there across the road from Willowbrook Mall next to academy. They usually have a pretty good selection and their prices are good. Be careful on the singles though, some of those beers are starting to grow beards.
HEB in Vintage park off of 249 has a good beer selection, and they also have a tap station. Nice thing they will do is pint fills, granted they are in clear bottles, but if you cover them quickly after they are poured and drink them within a day they hold up ok HEB Vintage Park. You are about 30 minutes from 8th Wonder, which is open everyday from 11 to 10 pm except for Sunday 6pm. They have a great atmosphere and always a food truck or two hanging around. If you plan on sticking around thru the weekend let me know and I can give you a list of breweries you can hang out at. Also it would be worth it if you go downtown to hit up the Hay Merchant. Really nice place

^These guys pretty much have it covered. I'd just like to add that Bearded Fox Brewery isn't far from Willowbrook.

Also, Southern Q is another good choice for some local BBQ.
