Hey BIFers! Well I'm recently new to the BIF community, it is exactly what I want in the beer community, and I'd like to possibly organize one of my own. Here's my thoughts, feel free to give feedback/advice, I'd love to make it work! I want to do a vinyl bif, where beer is only part of the big surprise inside the box. My thoughts would be to gather music preference info (basically the persons' 'wants' list, except with music instead of beer), and we would send maybe one record record or a few that the recipient would really appreciate. Beer aspect would be something akin to minimum 84oz (max 152 to keep it manageable) 85+ rated beers. What do you all think? Doable, manageable, been done before? That being said, would anyone be interested?
Initial thought: As good a beer as it is, Turntable Pils would have to be banned from this BIF for lack of creativity.
This has been done before and it's awesome. I think it's also been done on another website where you "talk" about "beer" too. I've been in on the last two rounds and it kicks ass. Past rules have been some ounce minimum that everyone blows out of the water, a used LP, and a new one, a glass, and maybe another piece of swag (can be a shaker pint). Oh and a beer has to be tied to a music (can be a stretch, but whatever) But looking at it that list, I may be mixing up multiple BIF rules. I know you had to send one glass though. I'm in if this gets off the ground. STONER MUSIC RIDE OR DIE!!
I saw an attempt to do this last year but it doesn't appear it ever worked out: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/nbo-tunes-and-brews-a-very-vinyl-bif.333123/ I'd be interested in participating if this happens, definitely a cool idea. It wouldn't have to be a requirement (because it's a lot of work if you've never done it and have 200+ records), but including a list of your entire collection for your sender would be nice. That way you can really get a sense of what your target likes, as well as avoid sending something they already have. If this gets off the ground, I call this dude as my sender.
I was thinking that too. I'm as meticulous with my records as I am with my beer, spreadsheets and all. Would be tough for others though. I would really like to try and get this going, feel free to spread the word, perhaps we can work out some requirements, shipping dates, etc.
Lol the point of BIFs are to have fun, not measure spreadsheet dicks and share inventory sheets of your musical catalogue...One just started over at the fun website, so good luck with this! If anyone is interested head on over.
One of my favorite aspects of BIF (and I know a lot of others feel this way) is tracking the target, see what beers they've had/rated, and craft a box accordingly. A list of records they already own is pretty much the equivalent of having access to someone's Untappd account and viewing what they've checked into. It's not about measuring anything. Anyways, it was just a thought.
