I gotta pick up my wife at the airport next Thursday, and I'll have some time to kill prior. Thought I'd head up to check out Kuhnhenn and Dragonmead, and as I don't want to sit and drink for several hours before driving the 40 minutes to the airport, I thought I'd check out some record shops in the area. A quick google search came up with a bunch of places, I kinda narrowed it down to Flipside-(Khunhenn) in Clawson and Blast in the Past-(Dragonmead) in Roseville.

Questions are: any other breweries I "must" stop at close to those two, any other record stores I "must" stop at in that area, or should I bag the plan entirely and visit some other brewery/record store area? Maybe a small bite to eat while I'm at a brewery too.
I'm coming from Ohio, probably have 3-4 hours to kill in the afternoon/evening.
And I'm looking for shops that carry vinyl, both new and used, interests are 70's heavy rock, heavy psych, proto-metal, stoner/doom/black and NWOBHM. Not so much interested in today's "aggro-metal"
    thanks in advance

If you're headed to Khunhenn's, stop by UHF in Royal Oak, they are more than adequately stocked in those styles. Much better selection than Flipside in my experience, though a bit pricier. Bonus - Royal Oak Brewery and The Bastone are both within walking distance if you wind up having enough time to kill.

Griffin claw isn't too far from these 2. Also hot hitz in Roseville, 12 n gratiot, is still open. I haven't been in there in YEARS but its good people watching

It's not by either of the breweries but you do pass by Stormy Records in Dearborn on your way to the airport. They're always worth checking out and it's run by Windy & Carl of Kranky records fame. You can find some really deep psych stuff there. If you're in for digging there's also Record Graveyard in Hamtramack.

These are all fantastic suggestions, but for me, it'd depend on what your primary goal is - experiencing great beers, or digging through a fantastic record selection. For the former, Kuhnhenn can't be beat, if you live and die by high ABV beers. If you're into spending more time in record shops, though, Ann Arbor offers that in spades with Encore (aka My Heaven), Underground Sounds, and Wazoo. Probably closer to the airport, and you can also hit Arbor Brewing, Ashleys, and the newly opened World Of Beer.

See if you can get the Windhand vinyl if you don't already have it. It is fantastic doom.

Looks like maybe I'll add UHF and Griffin Claw to the mix, much obliged for the suggestions.

Avoiding Ann Arbor this time because we go there on a regular basis. Encore Records makes my brain(and wallet) hurt.

Any decent bottle shops close to where I'll be, something quick in and out, I'm looking to pick up a few Michigan beers, Shorts, etc?
    thanks

Kuhnhenn and Dragonmead are great but they can be time consuming, especially if you plan to drive to and fro, back and forth to brew pubs all while hitting up record stores.

You probably don't have enough time to do all of this but I would recommend you go to:

UHF Records in Royal Oak, while you're in the area, walk to Lily's Seafood(in house brewing, its O K) for a pint,
then walk to Bastone (in house brewing - Award winning) for another pint.

If you're into dive bars, go to Gusoline Alley. #1 best bar in Royal Oak. Good beer, no crap on tap, good Juke box.

After that go to Holiday Market and check out their 600+ beer selection, nice Whiskey/Bourbon/Scotch selection as well. If you're looking for Short's, Holiday currently carries a Short's sampler pack they came out with last week. Really good stuff in it(2 sampler pack exclusives!). Also, since your going to be there Thursday, you might be able to grab a sixer of Strawberry Short's Cake(600 case limited distribution), assuming that Holiday Market gets it Wednesday and still has some left over(not likely). ALTHOUGH, there are several less-popular stores that get limited Short's distribution on Thursday instead of Wednesday. PM me if you want some suggestions.

Everything in Royal Oak is really close to each other, you could accomplish all of that comfortably in 2-3 hours.

    If you still have time,
I would then head south to Ferndale and check out Found Sound, another record store, not too shabby.

After that go to One Eyed Betty's, bar with huge bottle selection, "secret" menu with top-shelf(expensive) brew.

The WAB is also in Ferndale, they brew some solid beer, hang out at the upstairs bar and grab a pint. They also have nice "guest" brews on tap.

    Have fun and enjoy!

If by any chance you wind up in Detroit, go to Atwater, People's Records, Hello Records and definitely Green Dot Stables. Green dot is a gourmet slider bar with the cheapest craft beer in all the land. Food can get pricey($3 per slider), but you can beat $3 for craft beer on tap/bottled. Cocktails are cheap as well.
