Did you get any that were made this year? I was wondering if they discontinued it.

I honestly didn't check the date on it - I just had one at a party when I was home visiting family last winter - its possible it was old?

Its still on Harpoon's website, but not listed under their beers - you have to search by name to get it. Does make you wonder if it is discontinued.

With all due respect to @Squire123 , I'd be surprised if that particular beer will fit the profile of what you are looking for... but maybe it will.

Another one I'd buy based on the name alone.

I prefer Fire Ant over Smithwicks but I go for bolder and stronger brews generally.

The Irish beer enthusiasts' group Beoir some years ago concluded that Irish red is simply bitter beer, Admittedly not all Bitters are red but a good many of them are and have been since Moses was a boy.
Their conclusion from a tasting session was "The second proven thesis from the evening's tippling is that Irish Red is not a real beer style. On the night, nobody was confident about which was Smithwick's and which was Bass, even though one is supposedly an Irish "red ale" and the other a British "keg bitter".

Not sure if they distribute up that way, but I'm a fan of Lagerheads Bed Head Red.

@tlema1 Here is your answer. No it is not odd. Even though Irish Red and Scotch Ales often get put together they are really quite different. As state below Irish Reds are really just a form of Bitters but Scotch Ales are quite different.
