I want to try to create a hoppy red ale. Here is what I have so far:

7lbs Muntons Extra Light Dry Extract
    .5lbs American Crystal 40L
    .25lbs Roasted Barley
    .5lbs Belgian Special B

    0.75 oz Citra (60 Min)
    0.5 oz Amarillo (30 Min)
    0.5 oz Amarillo (15 min)
    1 oz Cascade (5 min)

Yeast: White Labs California Ale (WP001)

    Figures from Hopville:

    OG: 1.057
    FG: 1.014
    SRM: 17

    43.3 IBU
    5.7% ABV

    Any and all critiques welcome.

    Thanks guys.

If it were me, I wouldn't use the Citra to bitter, I'd use something like Columbus or Magnum or Chinook.

I'd do 2oz of Amarillo at 15 and 2oz of Cascade at 5. I'd dry hop with 1oz of Citra and 1oz of Cascade.

If what you listed is all you have on hand then this beer wouldn't fit my definition of hoppy, though it would probably still be very tasty.

I was trying for "normal" pale ale bitterness. I did not want to try for india red. I haven't bought anything yet....just planning.

Sounds good; but I agree that if you want something you'd call a "hoppy red", you should double those late additions (not the bittering addition) and/or dry hop with a couple of ounces.
