Yup, looks like it's dead due to changes in Reddit's content rules. I never used Reddit to trade, but I loved reading through the weekly Trade Value Tuesday thread. Can't believe it - and I was just perusing the trade value thread yesterday! There's a post about it on the CraftBeer Sub and the top reply to this post specifically addresses beer: (link removed due to glitching out but the post is easy to find).

I think I've tried them all and reddit was definitely the easiest place to trade. It was also super easy to be passive and set alerts using IFTTT. This will be missed. What's the consensus on the next best/most popular place to trade?

I always viewed reddit trading as the wild wild west. Far less accountability and personality than you have here on BA. I've had great interactions with Beer Advocates. Redditors on the other hand, have been a very mixed bag.

Aside from the whole anonymous username thing, I think rbeertrade.com is a pretty good system for registering reddit trades and as long as you use that and make sure people who have very few trades ship first, it's mostly pretty safe. Unfortunately a bad trader could create a new account and have another trade set up the next day.

They're also talking about moving the whole thing to rbeertrade.com. I think they could still possibly use the Reddit authentication APIs to keep the current data straight. I used BA and Reddit to trade and will probably just stick solely to BA for now.

I appreciate BA letting us discuss this an not locking it down (yet).

I wonder if the same thing will happen here eventually? I hope not, but it looks like sites are losing some legal protection from stuff that gets facilitated on their site.

"In the first major change to Section 230 in years, Congress is voting this week to make Internet companies take a little more responsibility than they have for content on their sites."

It would probably be good to wait and see if it passes, and it what form, before making drastic changes though, yes?

Time to make friends with a buddy from every major beer region of the country. Do some preliminary local for local trades to establish trust, and build our own networks for when the trade apocalypse hits.

My regular trader and I were discussing the effects the recent parcel bombings in Texas might have on shipping security reforms. If X-ray machines become the norm for all the major shippers, say good bye to shipping beer or hello to nice heavy lead-lined bottle shippers...

This is really sad. I've had a number of successful trades and met some great people on r/beertrade. Not only that, it was the first site I used for trading. Bummed that it happen so sudden -- no warning at all.

I used it to trade for mead...:disappointed

That's still not allowed on BA right?

This is the most likely reason why, and if it passes and is signed by Trump, places like BA and facebook will probably have no choice but to follow suit or face expensive and extensive legal repercussions.

It is just a shame that the language of the proposed changes is so vague since this change is apparently to stop the obviously awful sex trafficking, but it is non-specific enough to say facilitating crimes, which beer shipping technically could be considered.

I guess we just have to wait and see.

It was also a great place to find a trustee/proxy, never understood why that wasn't allowed on BA.

I don't understand why people don't want to use BA. It clearly has the most transparency. If you're wanting bourbon or mead, I get that. Otherwise, I don't really.

It's not hard to find. You might have an easier time looking in regional threads/posting there than in a beer trader forum though (on BA).

No way, the wild wild west is Facebook. At least reddit had a community where if someone screwed you over people would step up to try and make things right the best they could, for what it's worth.
