Were the bottles wrapped in bubble wrap?

5 750 ml bottles cram packed in a large USPS box is an absolutely terrible way to ship. Those bottles could have had nothing more than the most basic of padding.

I know this for a fact because I've shipped using 5he large box, and THREE bottles is a tight squeeze let alone 5.

Also, USPS will absolutely deliver a soaking wet, stinks like beer damaged box, again, personal experience.

Absolutely not true about the packing. You pack alternating base to head. The way NG 750s are 4 fit perfectly in 2 layers. I can actually ship 8 and have done so many times without incident. It's tight but that's good because there is no movement allowing the bottles to smash into each other. It's packed solid like a brick, which most people are unaware but is the best way to construct setting against breakage.

I'm not gonna sit here and argue my methods. I've sent out a ton of boxes with similar or the same bottles and never had any issues. Could it have broke? Possibly, but my track record is good so I won't argue with everyone on how I ship. The story has been bogus from the beginning. The pictures not until weeks later and the story that doesn't even make much sense with the time line (Gave the beers away because I said I would claim insurance, but said ok to sending a prorated amount. Not to mention that interaction was the next day, so giving the bottles away that quickly is somewhat unbelievable. Lasty, that he told me originally he had 2 bottles, so why would he have 2 on hand when he made the trade yet gave them both away upon hearing that I was gonna do the insurance? ), multiple missed shipping dates, ect..

Btw, there are 2 different large flat rate boxes so one would definitely not work while the other would.

Gotta agree with this. USPS isn't exactly known to be gentle, and New Glarus fruit bombers are heavy.
You're right – packing tightly does prevent the bottles from hitting into one another – but "solid like a brick" also means that any impact from the outside is transferred straight to the bottles within. There's a reason that most packing materials are squishy.

I use USPS large flat rate boxes(12" x 12" x 5-1/2") very often for non-beer shipments. Five bottles in that box does sounds like a horrible packaging job.

Right which is why I have no bottles touching any part of the box. The brick like construction is self contained with news paper creating a buffer to absorb impact.

I don't want to argue everyone. It seems as though I may need to reevaluate the way I ship. I think that my good track record speaks for itself on my style, but am open to constructive criticism.

It still doesn't change the fact that I offered to reship broken bottles without any evidence if he sent what was agreed to. He refused, didn't offer evidence until almost 2 weeks later, missed shipping dates twice and then had some crazy excuse why he only had one bottle instead of the 2 we had made an agreement to after the mention of broken bottles. Couldn't even come up with 2 let alone 3 that was part of our original deal.

So even if people disagreed with the way I shipped, I offered a couple fair resolutions and still have no beer with only the promise of 1 SM. Doest this not warrant a thread?

Also, just to hit on another point about usps not being gentle. That all changed when they started including free $50 insurance. Now that is wasn't opinional, they have to be more careful as not not have claims against the $50. Once again this was told to me by my friend who work at the pist office.

This tread is totally warranted. I'd still like to hear if the one bottle ever shows up and I will hope something extra is in there to make up for the missing bottle. I don't personally believe for a minute in the middle of all this he decided to give the two bottles in question to friends, that's BS in my opinion. Can't comment on the packaging, you do enough of these you'll have a break eventually but it seems to me if this guy was serious about the trade he would have taken you up on the offer of a re ship once he fulfilled his half of the deal.

Not to mention I sent 3 extras that made it since he had no mention of those breaking. I also sent a 1zenuff, NG Enigma (which he was looking at an enigma thread the day he got the package) and one a Tyranena Wrath of Rocky. Also find it odd that no extras broke, because he would have no foot to stand on for not shipping unless he says the agreed upon bottles broke.

Yea I was broke and didn't want the monkees. So I was very inclined to give them back after he decided he wanted insurance instead of the bottles.

I gotta ask man - why are you into beer trading if you are broke? The first thing anyone will tell you is that this isn't a cheap hobby, and as soon as you get into trading it gets way more expensive...

Everyone makes mistakes - you are certainly not the first person! At least you are owning it.
Can't tell you how many times I have heard people mentioning that a trade went bad because someone didn't ship and the excuse was 'can't afford to this week'. Probably time to pause on the trading for a while though...

I (and I'm guessing others) were only commenting about the shipping method, not the whole dispute. I probably would not have posted a thread at the same point that you did, but I wouldn't say that putting one up was unwarranted.

In your shoes, at this point I'd just step away and give things some time to play out. Either beer will show up or it won't.
