New Beer from Northwest’s Original Craft Brewery Created with Wings and Sports Fans in Mind

SEATTLE (July 2, 2013) – Redhook Brewery, the Northwest’s original craft brew, announced today that Game Changer Ale, a beer brewed with wings and sports fans in mind, will be available across the United States beginning July 15. Game Changer will also be available at over 925 Buffalo Wild Wings™ restaurants.

“Wings and sports go hand-in-hand, and we know there is demand for a good, flavorful draught beer to complement the two,” said Andy Thomas, President at Craft Brew Alliance. “Redhook Game Changer was created for that purpose. It’s an approachable craft beer that’s not too heavy or too high in alcohol so people can enjoy drinking it responsibly over the course of a whole game. Game Changer’s unique story gives sports fans a new craft with the authenticity of a Redhook brew.”

Redhook Game Changer is a pale ale with a rich amber color. The flavor profile appeals to a broad audience, from light domestic beer drinkers to craft beer drinkers. It is perfectly balanced with a blend of caramel malts and American-grown hops so that it can stand up to hot, spicy wings without overpowering the palate. With an alcohol by volume of 4.6 percent, Redhook Game Changer is a sessionable beer that allows fans to stay in the game all game long.

“We’re all about Wings. Beer. Sports. And we are always looking for new offerings to enhance the Guest experience at our restaurants,” said Kathy Benning, Buffalo Wild Wings™ executive vice president – global marketing, brand and business development. “Our Guests, above all, are sports fans, and they’re looking for that social environment to enjoy the game with their friends. We’re excited to offer them Redhook Game Changer knowing that it was created with them in mind.”

Whether the game’s coming down to the wire or the starters have made way for the bench warmers, Redhook knows sports and knows what sports fans like to drink. Redhook Game Changer Ale joins a roster chock-full of sports centric brews from newcomers like Audible Ale and ECS No Equal Amber Lager to classics like Redhook ESB and Longhammer IPA. Redhook also serves as the official craft brew of hometown University of Washington Athletics.

    About Redhook
Redhook was born out of the energy and spirit of the early 80’s in the heart of Seattle. While the term didn’t exist at the time, Redhook became one of America’s first “craft” breweries. From a modest start in a former transmission shop in the Seattle neighborhood of Ballard, to the current breweries in Woodinville, WA and Portsmouth, NH, Redhook has become one of America’s most recognized craft breweries. While Redhook has “grown up” over the past 30 years, one thing has never changed – Redhook is still brewing great beers like ESB, Long Hammer IPA, and Audible Ale. Most importantly, Redhook has fun doing it. Redhook beers are available both on draught and in bottles around the country. For more information, visit http://www.redhook.com.

If it's going to be in most or all Buffalo Wild Wings locations immediately, it sounds more like a Buffalo Wild Wings house beer to me.

Indeed. How it competes with the BMCs typically available at B Dubs will probably depend almost exclusively on the price. At volumes big enough to put it in over 900 restaurants, it ought to be pretty competitive with BMC that way. It actually could make for some very useful market data with regards to craft entering BMC-dominated markets, like the one that caters to the 20-something cheap wing-and-macro sports bar crowd. Especially since this will have some real marketing muscle behind it.

I've only been to 2 BWWs locations and the beer list at each couldn't have been more different. The last time I was in the Danbury CT location [probably 4 - 5 months ago] there was a good, not great, selection of craft brews, perhaps 60-40 craft to macro; the kind most every place would have since they are most readily available. At the Pensacola, FL location [in May 2013] there were maybe 4 or 5 decent craft offerings - aside from Blue Moon, Shock Top, etc. and it was probably 80-20 macro. Since it's my son [22 y.o.] who likes the place, I'll be visiting the Danbury location soon since he'll be home and I'll be curious to see if they still favor crafts over macros up north here.

I've only been there once, and that was about 7-8 years ago, in Chicago. I think there may have been Goose Island 312 and Honkers, and that was it for craft. I'm surprised to hear some locations have a significant craft representation; you'd never know that from their TV ads.

The TV ads are generic and nationwide. That's why you can't get a tap list for a specific location. Each location may have leeway as far as what they sell.

It seems the love of Ranch may be a Midwest phenomenon. Even this Ranch lover concedes to the blue cheese sauce when it comes to buffalo wings.

Who needs craft beer on draft when you have Budweiser, Bud Light, Miller Lite, Coors Light, Corona, Labatt Light, Corona Light, Labatt, Heineken, and, for the ambitious ones, Stella Artois?
