Just hit beer rating 2,000 (which was the Pipeworks\Angry Chair collab Dead Inside). A few things I've noticed about my own journey since I started rating and reviewing on BA.

    * I tend to rate much more than review; I'm guessing that is more the way of the world now.
    * Beer festivals don't excite me much anymore. I go to 1 or 2 a year as opposed to about 8 per year.
    * You can go to nearly any reputable restaurant and get solid craft beer. So different in the last decade.
    * The BA community has been invaluable in knowing where the best places are for good beer. I travel often for work, and this brought me to places I'd never find on my own.
    * While 2,000 beers in about 8 years is surreal, chasing quantity of ticks has stopped being a motivator years ago.

Cheers to the folks who I've had the pleasure of meeting along the way, and hope to see you before #3,000.

I recently passed 2,000 as well. About 70% were reviews. Took me 10 years. I travel a lot too and seeking out new beers remains a fun thing to do. 2,000 felt like a milestone to me and I've become more chill about not needing to review every new beer.

If by "the way of the world now" you mean that our social media-driven society has become increasingly lazy and is evolving to have the attention span of a shrew, and the current trend-setting generation (we'll call them Millennials) furthers this evolution by not only refusing to learn to hand-write, but also through the dumbing down of our language by making verbs out of any noun they don't know how to frame into a sentence and by shortening any word or phrase they can into just a series of letters, then yes. That is the way of the world now.

Way to trash a entire generation for no apparent reason...

    Am I wrong?
If you'd care to re-read, I called out our entire society.

“Millennials Are Killing the Beer Review Industry” :stuck_out_tongue:

OP. Congrats on the milestone! Beer ratings/reviews are the backbone of this site. Keep ‘em coming!

The problem is you called them "millennials" which has a specific definition (albeit, slightly fuzzy on the older age limits), which forgoes the idea that you are calling out the entire society. Otherwise you're not wrong.

I do agree that our society is slipping into a slightly lazier way of communicating, but every generation brings about some easier, or lazier depending on who you ask, method. How many cars get made with manual transmissions now? Hardly any because people of all generations can't be bothered to toggle a third pedal when they drive.

What's all this hating on the shrews? Lumping them in with millennials, how insulting to them!

I always found it odd when people view improved speed and efficiency of nonverbal communication as a bad thing.

    Thanks for sharing!

I did run across the below photo the other week and laughed pretty damn hard. It reminds me of sentiments on this forum from time to time.

To go back to OP though, congrats on the big milestone! I keep trying to work my way into a travel position at my work, namely for the sake of trying new beer. Although it would be nice to run and train in other places as well.

Thanks everyone. Tomorrow off to Asheville for the week. Safe to say I'll find some new beers to end the nights.
