I had one the other night and it was fine, not sweating it.

BC Rare isn't called that because of limited availability of the bottles. That's just what people assume. It's referred to as Rare because of the limited availability of the barrels used for the aging.

Somewhat surprises me that people still think it's because of limited availability but I suppose the name is a bit misleading. There were probably anywhere from 40k-60k Rare '15 bottles released. But I suppose it's kind of like a person that doesn't know much about cars seeing a BMW 335i with its badge replaced by an M badge, and then assuming that's what it is. Still a very quality car, even if it's not M\\\ power.

Just did a side by side of BCBS. Had a bottle dated Oct. 21 and a glass of 2015 BCBS on tap. Huge difference in the nose. Bottle smelt of noticeable sour and wine notes and was also considerably thinner on the mouth. Shared it with 8 friends, all of whom have had BCBS many times over the years. Had to get an empty pitcher because everyone decided it was a drain pour. Sad. Very sad. I already poured 2 barley wines and a coffee stout. After standing in line on black friday GI have really shaken my trust despite refunding me for the 2 BWs and coffee stout. Got my check but no shirt. Guess I shouldn't expect a refund for this BCBS considering this issue seems to be limited to these bottles from this one bottling day?

No clue if these regular BCBS infections are real but if they do have an acetobactor infection like the barleywine I had they are definitely not on their way to glory. A dumb phase in the aging process would not be tart or metallic (which seems to be a common descriptor in these complaints) in a non sour beer. If it just taste dull or disjointed then that may be a different story.

To be fair, you just mentioned two BA maple beers and a regular BA stout. Clearly people love their maple!

I guess I will report in as well. Bottle bought at publix in Miami on Black Friday. Kept between 70-74 degrees the whole time until I placed in the fridge for 24 hours before consumption. Started drinking tasters the whole time until it warmed up damn near room temp and I have to say it was good the whole way.

    Bottle Date: September 30, 2016
    Bottle Code: 0857
    ABV: 13.7%

A little surprised that I had a lower abv bottle in the miami area, because I thought they where all meant for Georgia and states like that with screwy abv laws.

I've had 5 different BCBS '15 basically once a month since Black Friday. Beers from IL, IN and VA and none were infected.

I posted earlier this week commenting that the 9/30 bottle date did not appear to have any issues thus far. Last night I opened an 11/4 (0940) 14.3%. From the sound the cap made as I popped it, I could tell something didn't seem right. The carbonation seemed a little higher than normal. Smelling it directly from the bottle revealed the same "off" aromas as BCBCS and BCBW. The first sip confirmed it. It has begun to exhibit the same tart, metallic flavors but to a lesser extent. This bottle was purchased in Miami and stored in an unopened case is a closet around 73 degrees. Again, I know this is not ideal.

I plan to open another one tonight with a friend to see if there are issues with other bottles of the same date.

I drank a 10/21 1208 after my 1751 the other night and thought it smelled and tasted a little off. So last night we drank another 10/21 1208 and it was fine. May have had an off smell but I think it was brain trickery.

    What this means (to me):
If the second set of numbers are bottle times as someone has stated. Then at some point in between 12:08 and 5:51 something was introduced to the line that wasn't sanitized or something (whether it be caps, bottles, ect).

    Conclusion:
Don't panic. Check your date codes. If you happen to have a bottle from 10/21 that was bottled AFTER 12:08; then there is a decent chance it is infected. If you have bottles of regular bcbs from a day before or after, or even earlier that day, then you are likely okay. No need to drink all of it now. And I feel it's safe to say avoid trading for bcbs without dates being provided.

i bought about twelve bcbc in central and southern illinois. drank one or two right after black friday and then another around xmas. everything tasted great.

spent some time reading through this thread a few nights ago. got a little worried, but also thought it would be an excellent excuse to drink one of the bcbs i'd been cellaring.

the first one i opened last night (april 15) was disgusting. opened another a few hours later - also bad, not quite as bad as the first. both were undrinkable.

    here's the bottle info:

    bottle #1 - 09OCT15 1426 13.7% - 217 15 D1 22:34

    bottle #2 - 30SEP15 0848 13.7% - 218 15 D1 03:33

my cellar is in a spare, dark closet that is always around 66 degrees.

Thank you for posting. The naysayers probably won't believe you but it shows the randomness of bad bottles, outside the 10/21. I'm drinking a 10/6 tonight that I threw a vanilla bean into so hopefully it's still solid. Also drank a Rare last night and it was spot on

Has anyone cracked any 23OCT15 bottles? I've got three left, and I'm getting a bit nervous. Hadn't planned on opening them anytime soon.

Actually this is a great idea, on a number of levels. If you can collect a few suspected bad ones from several Florida folks who opened and found multiple and now suspect the rest, this would give GI some hands on proof of the infection, would give them batch info, it may help to have one in hand in case the cause is different than with the variants, and lastly you might end up with something from GI for your support/trouble.

if it weren't for logic this would make absolute sense. given this is the base beer of the Coffee variant, and they've already paid out refunds on said variant; i'm not saying more ex/s/amples would hurt, but you think they really need more to test & these new samples will actually = some significant difference?

    Baltimore MD here:

    21OCT15 1858 14.3% ABV

100% this beer is infected. Extremely acidic shell of what it should be. Tastes like half sour fruit juice and half BCBS. I'm assuming my other bottles and Regal Rye are infected too.

21OCT15 1330 14.3% purchased in NJ and tastes beautiful. Have two more with the same dates that I plan on drinking sooner than planned. Hopefully GI hooks up everyone that got boned on the bad bottles. Cheers.
