you don't need receipts. You need to rip the labels off the neck and take a photo of the back label.

When I heard they were loading up tanker trucks and then moving it on a podcast last year, I thought that sounded awfully risky.

Undoubtedly, after all this, there will still be a vocal contingent of people who are mad at Goose Island for how they've handled this in spite of the fact that, by industry standards, they have gone above and beyond in doing right by their customers.

I do wonder how many people who've been calling for GI's public flogging will now roll back their fire and brimstone.

If you read GI's Facebook page, apparently their MSRP for Binny's was $14.99. Know anyone that paid that?

I had a bad Nov 6th which is not eligble for a refund according to the GI website.

@BoldRulerVT, thanks for the links/information you provided. This is the first time that I have read that Goose Island actually fessed up that the problem with these beers was a bacterial infection (or contamination for those that prefer that word vs. infection).

    Cheers!

Above and Beyond? For BCBCS and BCBBW, I'd agree. This round? Absolutely not. Maybe you save infected beer bottles but I sure don't and I'm guessing most others don't either. And to be clear, I'm fine with requiring proof of purchase. They should've done that the first time around. But to not allow a receipt to be proof of purchase (which tracking down is already a burden) for those that don't have the bottles is not "above and beyond." And even if you're lucky enough to have saved your bottle, receiving back much less than what you paid for for Prop (nobody paid $14.99) is very disappointing.

It sounds like Binny's charged $14.99 for Prop, which is probably where a majority of it was sold through. Anyone know what other retailers such as Beer Temple and Whole Foods charged for it? If most of the reputable stores charged $15, then it doesn't seem like a big deal. I think refunding $15 for the regular is going above and beyond and will most likely offset any higher prices charged on Prop. If you paid $30+, then I think you know that paying that premium is on you.

I don't know what to tell you.

It seems to me that the number of people who save bottles as opposed to receipts is far higher. I don't save receipts from beer purchases because I don't expect to end up having a bad product. On the other hand, I would certainly make a point to save bottles of a product that I knew might be bad. Hence why I have all the bottles, opened and unopened, that I purchased.

As far as the Prop thing goes--that was their MSRP. Stores charged way above that because they knew damn well people would pay it. But GI didn't see that money. It's not on them to refund customers who paid inflated prices just like it's not on GI to refund the amount of the cost of the bottle you traded to get Prop. Or the gas you spent driving to get it.

Keep in mind, they are refunding 150% of the MSRP for Original. Seems like that should factor in somewhere here... but I know how this works--righteous anger for everything they do wrong and not a peep for what they do right.

They're not actually refunding $15 for regular, are they? I read the release assuming $15 only referred to Prop.

Wow it looks like my bottles just slipped in under the dates 06/OCT. I am not really sure I trust that ONLY those bottles dates listed are bad. I find it hard to believe like others that bottle dates just outside these wont have issues as well. But I really hope mine are good I wanted to aged some and drink over the years not just pound them down now.

It said up to $15 for Prop and Regular. If they are going to refund a different amount for Regular, they really should be more explicit. Of course, the communication aspect is one area I think GI needs some help in, so it wouldn't surprise me if they stated it wrong.

You raise a good question. The official GI page doesn't mention any specific price for either refund. But this is the language of the Tribune article:

"Goose Island will refund customers who purchased the two Bourbon County variants $15 per bottle. Unlike its January recall of the coffee and barleywine variants, which was based on an honor system, Goose Island is requiring proof of purchase for its latest recall, which begins today and lasts through Sept. 15. Its recommended retail price for the 16.9-oz. bottles was $9.99, though many retailers marked them higher."

The first bolded part reads to me as if $15 is the amount across the board for either variant. But it could also be written poorly. Similar to how the second bolded part makes it sound like you need a receipt.

Fair price for original, kinda low for Prop. It's killing me that I have to wait until I get home to verify mine.......

I have three bottles in the bad category, plus another bad one that I saved after I missed out on the BW/Coffee return and figured this might happen eventually. I'll take what I can get on the refund front, because GI has all the leverage here. Whatever people want to say about boycotting and being angry and whatnot, I bet I see y'all in the same lines again in November. I am bummed that the majority of my bottles were bad, but I will still be there in the fall because I love the beer and also I am a sheep.

$15 appears to be for both. From the picture of the form on the GI recall page
