I will be in Regensburg for a work trip for 2 weeks starting on Monday. Any recommendations for places to go beyond the obvious stuff (Hofbrau, Hacker Pschorr)?

I visited in August and had dinner and beers at Brauhaus am Schloss, Spitalgarten, and went to Weltenberger as well. Looking for some new spots that might be off the beaten path.

    Thanks in advance!

If you haven't been to Kneitinger, you really should go. Their Bock is one of my favorite beers and their Dunkel is very good too. If you are willing to travel out of the city, there are a lot of good places in the countryside. It's very similar to Bamberg in that respect.

Thanks for the tip. I was going to try to squeeze Kneitinger in last time but I ran out of time. Thanks for reminding me, I will visit them this time.

A stop at this place every time in Regensburg for Wurst and the Bier on tap.

    Kneitinger is a must.

I agree that it is worth a stop, but it is one of those places that everybody should go once but that probably is enough. Kind of like the Hofbrauhaus in Munich.

IIRC the Wurstkuchl serves Jacob bier. Decent, but nothing special.

In my experience the Wurst make it worth it. But that's just me. We all know what we like.

There's the Brauerei Michael Plank, in Laaber, about 8 miles NW. And you're also not far from Kelheim, where you'll find the Weisses Brauhaus. And, up the Main-Donau Kanal northwest is Essing, with the Schneider Brauhaus (no relation) and Riedenburg, with the Riedenburger Brauhaus....

    Prosit!

That bock is a work of art. It's a 6.8% beauty. I know it gets released in late September / early October. I have no clue how long it stays available. But damn, if they have it on tap it's worth a trip there just for that. Can't comment on how it might be from the bottle.

I’m definitely going to stop in there this evening to check. I love a good bock. Had the Doppelbock at Brauhaus am Schloss the other night and it was divine.

Went to the Weisses Brauhaus in Kelheim today. The Weißwurst and a Schneider Weissbier hit the spot. Thanks for the tip.

We made a trip there just for that while going to Munich from Bamberg. But when we got to the brewery it was unexpectedly closed! It seems they had a ventilation problem in the kitchen so they had to close. We made a effort to find it around town with no luck. Just as we had decided to give up and just have lunch we stumbled across a place that had in bottles. Maybe not quite as good as draft but still very good! And the place had a great view!

Spital is on the other side of the river from the Wurstkuchl. Auer is just up the street on that side too,

I was really disappointed by Plank. I expected something like an Unertl or a Schneider. For me it was just Meh.

Kneitinger has four brewery pubs in the city district, maybe more. One is a bit south of the HBF, might mostly be a biergarten. Not a huge food selection. Another location also has lodging which I might check out in 2024, plus a good restaurant and beer. The main site is in the old town at the Arnulfsplatz bus stop (there is a gift shop and districution a few blocks to the west) and the location we have visited the most. On our last trip we discovered the "Unter den Linden" biergarten and inside restaurant and stopped in there on back-to-back days (skipping Arnulfsplatz because of covid). The location is situated in a park.

The bock and dunkel is some of the best.

I love the Kneitinger Keller beer garden (and restaurant). As rodndtube says, close to the main train station. Maybe a 10 minute walk. I've stayed at the ibis Regensburg City hotel which is across the street from the train station shopping mall. A 5 minute walk to Kneitinger Keller.

How is that Ibis next to the train station? We are considering it for next year's visit.

Both times we spent the night in Regensburg we stayed at the Hotel Münchner Hof. Very nice and a great breakfast buffett. This was before Covid, so who knows what it might be like now.

We have stayed at the Hotel Münchner Hof on every visit to Regensburg the last time in 2022. The breakfast buffet was a bit disappointing relative to the prior half dozen visits, but still rates as excellent. We were considering the Ibis across the river but access by public transit appears difficult, but a great option by car.

Anyone know of places to get Kneitinger Bock in bottles to go? I have A. Schock and Getrankemarkt Steinweg as places to look. I will be driving so I could stop outside the city center as well. Thanks!
