Update: On desktop/wider displays, links to subforums are now displayed below the parent forum info. Icons and link colors will note if there are any unread posts.

I'll be exploring mobile options this week.

Update: South America and now Latin America. Moved the Mexico forum plus threads for Central America and the Caribbean accordingly.

Was this change based on user experience research or any sort of data? Hiding pages behind extra layers is the kind of thing that turns me off and makes me reconsider visiting a site. Adding “pro tips” to replace easy access doesn’t feel like navigation help. It just feels like unwanted steps and the exact opposite of a good user experience. Would love to hear the reason for the change, not to complain per se, but to better understand.

Update: I'm still making tweaks to support various responsive views, but I've managed to adjust the forum code to display subforms in a single column on mobile.

Wow, checked the numbers. We could view the individual states in the US as separate countries, so ten forums would mean on average five states. Sounds familiar, the Nordic countries are "about" five and get a forum.

    Just my two Eurocents

This feels like a good compromise, the regional forums showing up as just broad global regions definitely had a somewhat intimidating feel to it.

The regional forums showing up underneath the United States header on the main page is much better than having to click through and then find your region.

The current option with regions shown as sub-categories to continents works well for me. Thx

Appreciate all the work that goes into this place, and not saying that this is a huge deal, but I'd personally prefer to add more U.S. regions, rather than go in the other direction and collapse into less and larger regions. A lot of the interesting topics relate to localities and small breweries and I worry that's going to get buried in the new format.

For example, WSH D.C., and Texas are so completely different and far away from each other that grouping them into the same region kind of defeats the purpose of having local forums. I understand that having 50 individual state forums might be a bit much (although I wouldn't complain) but maybe there's a compromise that's more than 4.

Make sure to vote: Should we break up United States forums again?
