I'm new to kegging. I have a Kegco tank and dual gauge regulator. Anyway, I removed my tank to adjust the position and out popped a buna-n oring and brass retaining ring? It looks to be at regulator fitting and tank. The oring appears to go inside the brass fitting, but seems way too large? Is this right? Do I even need this? I also have a nylon washer in regulator fitting. Any help appreciated. Not finding much on Google.

yes. gas pressure before the regulator is multiple hundreds of psi. that is what a regulator regulates after all. you will empty a tank in about a day if you don't have a proper washer.

can you post a pic? not sure what regulator you have since Kegconnection is a re-seller and not a manufacturer. some regulators have a permanent o-ring fitted into the brass body, while others require a washer. but not both.
    Cheers.

After 30-40 min the size of this o-ring went back to normal. I don't know if this is normal. It's almost like CO2 got in and blew up up like a balloon, or maybe just the change in temperature caused it to expand. Here is a pic. This goes on my tank and then I have a nylon washer on my regulator. It appears I need both.

Could you elaborate on just where this "popped out from". As billandsuz said, you need either a buna o-ring or a nylon disc but never both. It appears the brass ring is to fit over the o-ring and compress it as you tighten your locking nut. But just where is came from is a mystery to me if you had no leaks previously. Is the size of these two pieces made to mate with your reg/tank (underneath the locking nut)?

When ever I take off my reg I always do a leak check (reg-to-tank connection); as a minimum a squirt bottle test but better to pressurize the reg at 40+ with shut-off's closed and then close tank valve and let sit overnight.
