The week it came out, trade propositions proclaiming possession of the brew were proud and rampant. Some bad reviews and word of mouth later, you'd think this was the worst brew(or, at least barleywine) ever produced.

Have to admit, after splitting this at a tasting(and most importantly, drinking at about room temp) it was complex and flavorful enough to enjoy. Now, I can't say this stands up to King Henry or Sucaba and the like, but this beer just seems like an enigma. It's kind of thin mouthfeel wise for a BW, yet at the same time hints at complexity that has the potential to unfold through the years and improve.

I think we can agree that Founders knows what they're doing. I also find it hard to believe that they haven't brewed/monitored test batches of this stuff years ago not to know enough about it, and foresee whether it will be the failure that many think it is or an ageable home run.

Can this age into a masterpiece, or will it always be an overhyped release that was still good, but could never live up to the lofty expectations?

I thought it was quite good fresh, although very sharp in flavor and quite boozy. I'm guessing it will only improve. I've got a bottle in the cellar to test that theory...

Didnt find it a bad beer by any means.
Will age help it ? I imagine so .

Didn't pull the trigger on it. Love Founders, but it was a little too expensive for me.

I've got three in the cellar hopeful of that same. I mean really do we all want to walk off a cliff together or do we want to tastes with our own judgement unperturbed from what others think. We both have elected to go our own path.

That's still on the shelves as is Frangelic Mountain Brown around me, which for the price, I like more.

I really enjoyed it. A bit too pricey to pick up another though. They're still readily available here.

I thought it was really good, didn't blow my mind, if they released it again at the same price I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Had this about a month ago.. It was pretty good. I would have never guessed it was a Founders brew. Maybe some age will do it some good? The FBS in my glass tastes amazing!

Was basically Bigfoot mixed with 120 min IPA.. got 2 for cheap to age, hoping that fading the hops will bring out the maple..

I just split my first one with a friend about a week ago and it was drinking amazing. ISO for fair trade of things I can get in NC.

Ive got 4 of them left. I plan on cracking the next one in July which will mark 1 year since it was bottled.

Everybody also thought Blushing Monk wasn't that great when it came out. I'll be sitting on mine for a while and see how things go in a long while.

I had it on tap and thought that it was mediocre. Brought a bottle to a tasting and loved it. Not worth the high price tag though.

What in God's name are you talking about? "Failure that many think it is?"

    WTF?
