I cannot hate on Eddie. He started the first horse racing track (that you legally could bet on) here, IIRC. No, I do not remember Anchor twist-offs. By the time it got here, we were WAY more sophisticated than that. But I do remember some delicious Steam from the other night!

There was a short period of time, about 10 years ago, when I was shocked to find Anchor Steam in twist-offs. Lasted a couple of years at most.

Was there a marked difference in the twist-offs? I know bottle caps are quite the point of contention amongst BAs.

I remember them too. Up until a couple of years ago (and they still may) Anchor bottled Steam in plastic bottles for sale at Candlestick and ATT Park which were/are twist offs.

The caps had the same graphics, but with "TWIST OFF OR USE OPENER" on the lower portion of the face of the cap. Not a very exciting change for us collectors, but we'll take any change we can get! I have a SHITLOAD of both, in all colors, if anybody wants some for a project, any size. Go 'niners!

Does anyone have any empty plastic Anchor Steam bottles they want to part with?

Plastic Anchor bottles? Alright. Tell me, was Liberty Ale offered in the same packaging? (Huge Anchor fan here).

Next time I or one of my friends or co-workers goes to a Sharks game, I will get a couple. How many (that's a $9 plastic bottle!)?

I've only seen Anchor Steam in plastic.

Haha, I thought I was the only person who saw this. I immediately recognized the beer and that the cap explicitly states "use opener." Hooray we're nerds!

I stand corrected. They were twisties just before the "Use opener" graphics. I am a lesser nerd and ashamed. I just got some corked bottles for Christmas and won't have to worry either way!

Got one of those plastic Steam bottles on a flight recently, and it took me at least 5 mins before I realized it was plastic (they also have a slightly taller/slimmer shape than the glass.)

Was a funny moment. Looks like a shit part of the ground to be sitting at given his status? How about that pick 6 at the end, crazy stuff.

Ha I saw that while I was watching the game, I was actually excited it was an anchor steam rather than a bud light

I think one of the commentators even mentions some fing about his beer

    Go niners!!!

I was drinking the christmas beers a couple days ago, and the transition was between 2007 and 2008, because the '07 was a twisty and when I tried to twist off the '08 I realized the cap now said USE OPENER.

I just checked my collection and the '07 OSA I have says "Use Opener" right on the cap.

    I honestly don't remember Anchor ever having twist-offs (doesn't mean thy didn't, I just don't remember).

My memory is for shit these days, but I know for a fact that the '06 was a twisty because I felt like a dumbass after I used an opener to open it.

I'd have to check a second stash for anything older than '07, but I honestly can't recall Anchor ever having twist-offs -- the twisters they're talking about above look like bottles specific for sports stadiums.

And for what it's worth, I'd feel more of a dumbass if I was trying to open a pry-off as a twister! (did that with Goose Island when they first switched -- hurt like hell!)

Twist-off caps have always made me feel like I'm drinking cheap crap. Fine for drinking adjuncts from the bottle. If I'm going to drink a good beer then I'm pouring it into a glass. If I'm pouring it into a glass then I'm within reach of a bottle opener.
