No true, imbibing was not illegal during prohibition

Ok, maybe so, but it doesn't change my point at all.

    ticking is a joke

I like a good steak, I don't pass on Morton's in favor of Denny's simply because I haven't had it. I also find more pleasure consuming things that taste great than those that reek of meidocrity

It's really all in the mind, more than the palate. I think perspectives are being warped, do to ratings, rarity and hype. Any hobby/passion can have the same effect IF YOU LET IT.

And to the OP and anyone else in the same boat: If I were into something, anything, that disappointed me 90% of the time, I would already have given it up. Life is too short for those odds.....

I remember when I thought Blue Moon was the pinnacle of beer and you were manly if you ordered a Guinness (even if it was a bit too bitter).

There were a lot of clunkers back in the day and a lot of clunkers these days. Craft /= automatically mean good beer and I never expected it to be so. I hope I did right with that symbol-y thing.

Not trying to put down Blue Moon or you, but there was never a time that Blue Moon could be considered craft in any meaningful way. It has always been a Coors product. (not saying that makes it bad beer)

Yeah, I remember that, it's right now. Every craft and most non-craft tastes good to me. I like beer. After a long day of work an Old Style tastes real good. The worst beer I have ever tasted was Shipyard pumpkin, and I like pumpkin beers.

    Yes.

I remember plenty of bad craft beer from the mid 90s.

There is still a lot, but its easier to avoid, back then the options were so limited that I tried whatever was available.

I had a bad craft beer last week. It was from a brewery that I generally like, but I suspected the beer from the start and still ordered it and it was even worse than I suspected. I gambled and lost, hoping to be blown away.

    I think you are wrong.

Honestly, in the mid to late 90s, a lot of what was produced sucked. Today, not so much. I think our standards have increased over the last 20 years.

And I think you are wrong.

Glad you said what you said. Yes, much of 90's sucked, I agree. And our standards have increased since then because the quality of existing options have increased. When the bar is set lower, it's harder to disappoint. And when the bar is set higher, then disappointment is easy. That's today.

Nope. I'm routinely disappointed. And by disappointed, I mean the beer was just OK. In the past, most craft options wowed me. This is especially true for IPAs. I've had so many good IPA/DIPAs now that it takes a really special one to impress me.

Just curious. Where were you working at age 17 where they allowed you to sample such a wide selection of good beers that you became such a prodigy? I'm really not trying to troll, but I also know the law in most states (approximately 50 of them) frowns on that kind of thing and most bar owners are pretty protective of their licenses. When you present yourself as a grizzled veteran at the age of 25, you're kind of inviting a few well-meaning jibes.
