Like many people I collect beer labels and really want to collect all the brewdog labels as apart from being cool labels they are also one of my favourite breweries. But unlike standard beer bottels the label goes right the way around the glass, and either the label of the glue are made of a different matterial that I can't seem to get off without damaging Usually I put them in a sink full of warm water for 20 minutes and they just fall off, but not brewdog and some other beers. Usually the glue seems to stay holding and the label gets soft and just rips. Any suggestions? I'd prefer not to go out any buy special chemicals so hopefully with something I have around the house. Cheers.
My three main methods are: Hot water for 30 minutes or so; Hot water with baking soda for 30 minutes or so (many people say OxyClean works better, but that stuff is strong enough to take ink off of some labels); Heat the bottle in the microwave anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes to soften the glue. Holding the hot bottle with a towel, pot holder, etc. start by peeling a corner of the label slowly, and then be prepared to stick the label to a piece of paper because some glue usually comes off with it. This topic come up occasionally in this forum, so if the above steps don't work you can do a search to find the previous threads and maybe get some other suggestions. I should add that I have never tried a bottle from Brew Dog.
HI, I have read your interest in Brewdog Brewery labels and admit that I share your interest. I am a crowncaps collector but also collect labels from favourite brewers, such as Brewdog. The method I use is normally successful: 1/ Boil a kettle and pour the hot water into the bottle. 2/ Leave it to stand for 5-10 minutes only and then using a sharp-knife or old fashioned razor-bade, peel back one corner of the label. 3/ Once the corner is lifted, carefully peel back the rest of label taking care not to 'pull' too quickly. Try to leave the sticky film on the bottle if you can. I have noticed that their labels (the style used on Punk IPA for instance) are often embossed and can easily tear if pulled-off the bottle too quickly. 4/ Once the label is lifted from the bottle, I place it carefully onto a greaseproof sheet (baking sheet), to cool down /dry. 5/ Once cool, I peel it back from the non-stick sheet and apply talcum powder (baby powder) to the sticky reverse side and this neutralises the stickiness. If you remove the sticky film with the label, continue to stick this onto a grease-proof paper and once it is dry/cool decide if you should leave it of lift it and apply talcum powder. Warning - do not try to remove the sticky film from the label once it is lifted from the piping-hot bottle as it will cool quickly and you'll ruin your label if you try to separate them. Over the years that BrewDog has been brewing they have produced more than 100 different beers and some of these labels (and variants) are now fetching many dollars (or pounds sterling) on ebay, especially for the rare small-batch and expensive beers. Hope this has helped. Kind Regards, AndyCapper (a UK beer buddy).
I had a lot of problems with their labels aswell. Untill I started using HG Sticker Remover. Just apply some with a (paint)brush on the whole label, wait 5 to 10 minutes and you'll be able to peel to label off.
