Whats the best way to remove labels from beer? I mean to use the labels for a collage. I was thinking of just saving bottles, but after collecting a few, It seems this would get out of hand over some time.

I've heard that filling the bottles with really hot water will make the labels slide right off, and it sounds like it would work to me even though I haven't tried it yet. The glue should soften and allow the labels to fall off totally intact but with wet glue on the back. I've been wanting to do something similar with the labels.

So maybe even sticking the bottles in a microwave for about a minute? I don't know about heating 12-22 of boiling water for 30 plus bottles lol. But sticking 15 in a microwave at a time seems more doable

Labels fall into a few difficult ease-of-removal categories such as easy, difficult and impossible. Soaking in a sink of hot water will cause some to actually float off; soaking as above with some Oxyclean (not too much or this stuff will take ink off too) or baking soda will take a few more types off; heating in a microwave or with a hair dryer will take a few more difficult types off (this will soften the glue but won't neutralize it so you gave to stick this type onto some paper right away), and then there are some labels that no one in these threads has found a sane way to remove short of surgery with a razor blade.

Do a search in this Brewerania forum and you'll find a number of previous threads on this topic that will mention some things that I didn't include here. Good luck.

Precisely. I attempt to remove labels from every beer I drink, and while I've gotten much better, there's simply some labels that just tear apart no matter what.

Just be careful and you'll start to figure out which ones are which. And remember that it's never worth getting too worked up over if you can't peel it off cleanly..

soak em in a bucket of water. depending on the label material and glue used they'll come off easily/with a tab bit of work.

If the label is thin enough, I've found that they simply fall apart with this method (i.e. Sam Adams).

I've been putting mine in the microwave for about 40 seconds up to a minute, then use a razor blade. Seems to work on about 75% of them.

OxiClean is awesome at removing labels, make sure to use the unscented kind and rinse well as it can leave a thin film on the bottles if left to soak to long. I typically use one scoop to five gallons of hot water and just let the bottles sit. The labels float off and will loosen any gunk on the inside of the bottles. I use Oxi in place of PBW for most things cleaning related, just make sure to use your Starsan:wink:
