Removing older corks

    I have a number of cases of various ales with caged corks. Sometimes when I open something that's been a year or two in the cave the cork breaks part way through the operation. I'm sure part of the problem is improper tools - I'm either using jar pliers to grasp the bulbous top or bicycle pliers if I got some of the stem out.

    So far no tragic disasters, but this seems like an issue that others must have faced.
