Just thinking out loud a little here, but would it make sense or would it be feasible to increase the number of reviews necessary for consideration for top beers in general and then do away with the top new beers and replace it with a "trending" style animal? Maybe if the criteria for appearing on trending were set to beers added in the past year (top new beers criteria) and ratings / reviews added. Once the reviews approached the cutoff for minimum necessary to be considered for top beers, it would drop off trending. While I don't know what the parameters for "trending" would be, I'm sure it could be a number high enough to reflect actual interest instead of like three people tried it. I'd also give the first appearance of a trending beer a lifespan so that one-offs weren't clogging up the works after all known kegs were kicked.
