have any of you had to deal with the red Firestone gas dip tubes in a ball-lock keg that are a more narrow diameter than the readily-available stainless steel dip tubes on the market? i'd love to find a place with stainless steel tubes of the right diameter as opposed to drilling out the opening, but figured i'd check here to see what folks' experience have been with either...

Did you break it or something? I've never had to replace a gas tube.

it reeks of sierra mist syrup (i just picked up the keg and it still had the syrup in it from pepsi) and i'd rather not leech any unwanted flavors

Can't help you with replacing it but a good bleach water soak might help with the flavors. Also, the gas tube has minimal contact with the beer so it's not a big risk imho.

You may consider just cutting it down a bit. I don't really know the purpose of it dipping down into the keg as far as it does.

If not bleach, a good overnight soak in unscented Oxyclean will help take most of that smell out.

Not sure if this would work, but perhaps you could just use a ss washer on top of the oring, and eliminate the plastic tube entirely...seems like that might seal sufficiently for the gas side.

I just drill them out and use stainless tubes-it should take almost a minute to find the right size bit and drill it.
