I have reported photo updates for several beers, while providing a link to the picture with the specific size requirements.

But all of them never get updated or used, and they are clearly either better looking or a new label.

    What is wrong?

Don't you have to wait until the original is removed, then download the new one yourself?

    Prosit!!

Exactly... the Site Editors (volunteers) will remove the photo that is either the old labeling or bad picture/out of focus/etc., but then it is your job to post the new picture which will then go into the queue for approval.

We (the Site Editors) do not have the time to download and possibly resize/adjust the compression/etc and then upload the photos for all of the updates. Also, the person uploading the photo is the person saying that they have the copyright/permission to use the photo.

Then, how long does it take for editors to remove old photos? Also, I'm from Mexico so I'm sure editors are not familiar with the beers around here.

Should I report for the photos to be removed so I can update them myself?

You report the Update for the Photo to be removed/changed, we (Site Editors) process the removal... then you upload the new picture after the update is processed.

There are lots of updates submitted for beers/breweries all around the US and the world, many of which the Site Editors are not personally familiar with... that has nothing to do with if/when the update is processed.

Updates are processed in a queue and usually are handled in a couple of days - depending on volume and amount of time Site Editors have on any given day. I processed the ones that you submitted earlier today.

@dbrauneis I've been noticing a lot of out-dated beer photos on this site, so I searched for information on how to update a beer photo and I found this thread. Now I know, but I also have a suggestion...

I think an "Update Photo" button/link coded into the beer profiles would make updating beer photos easier for users and the approval process easier for Site Editors. I'm imagining that when a user clicks "update photo" the site will prompt the user for: 1) a reason for the update, and 2) a file upload in accordance with the site's photo requirements. Then editors can review everything at once and approve/deny the update. Basically, turning a two-step process into one-step; and there would be no interim period a beer profile would be missing a photo. The review process could be further streamlined by limiting reasons for the update to just check-boxes of allowable options (e.g. old labeling, out of focus, bad picture, etc.). I imagine brewers who want to keep their beers' profiles current would also appreciate a faster process.

No disagreements from me, it just will take time for @Mike and @Todd to make coding changes to the site to enable this (I have no idea what the priority for such a feature would be in relation to the others items on their plates). I do believe there is an ownership for breweries/places coming that would allow the breweries to handle some of this themselves - I don't know the ETA.

@dbrauneis What is the current time lag for duplicates and reported mistakes (using Report an Update) in beer listings? I know I have reported some that still haven't been corrected. Thanks.

Duplicates remain on hold. @Mike is in the middle of building out new maintenance tools for beers and places. Once complete we'll begin handling them and other items.
