Greesy! Nice job. I could not have said it all better. :sunglasses: However you left out Bacchus brewing here in small little town called dryden NY. I had one thing from them It was good. I think it was the pale ale. They have potential. Also with potential is bandwagon brewpub in Ithaca. If they really get their freak on they can brew some good beer. The brewer there is named Lars and he would not even talk to me. I had my notebook I had my camera I mean what is his problem? I have tasted stuff from them that was awesome and some that was not so awesome. Perhaps they will take over where Ithaca Beer has seemed to leave off. Then finally there's wagner valley. The same wagner that makes the wines and it is unique because it's the only winery that also makes beer.

PS - tell Threes Heads to put some dates on their bottles and I will buy more of them.

I see what you mean. Bamberg and Bayern are way more interesting, but still I'll bet the industrial local brew is better there than Bud and others here. Are you able to get Flensburger easily? I like that one very much. Also, a day trip over into Holland and Belgium is not out of the realm of possibility.

I have heard good things about Bacchus, but I have not been able to get out and visit them. Same thing with Bandwagon, but next time I am in Ithaca I would like to try it. I've heard their weizenbock is pretty solid.

I've heard good things about Two Goats, I think @ColdOne has mentioned their Whiskey Richard is tasty, but I've not been out there either.

Not quite local for me, but Galaxy Brewing in Binghamton has started hitting Rochester and they are doing some really tasty stuff. Their IPA, Andromeda, is a knockout.

The weizen bock is my favorite, if I had to rate it again I would put on a par with southern tiers goat boy. It's that good. The hidden rabbit hefe is fickle and the pirate eye IPA is nice. They can do this. Come to Ithaca we will go to bandwagon and let's get that fellow to talk to me. =)

Can get Bavarian beers here, so thats great, but no the local breweries around here: Hütt, Martini, Paderborn, Göttinger, Warburger, all suck! Most cities in the US now have at least something decent, and I am even more Jaded after having just spent a year in Portland:slight_smile:

Day trip to Belgium is a bit far as it is 4hrs 1 way by car, when we lived on the border a few years ago it was quite easy:slight_smile: However, I still make it over about 3-4 times a year

Portland changes everything about this conversation. Are you an American in Germany or an ex expat? Do you know Flensburger?

Went to Wagner several times with a former girlfriend. Awesome location, with a great view across the lake. Had some chicken wings with a raspberry-jalapeno jelly that was fantastic! One of the few times a year I miss living in Upstate is Autumn. Driving along the Finger Lakes when there are just miles of foliage blasting colors is amazing.

I thought Pittsburgh gets FW? I think House of 1000 Beers carries it? They also have some RR sours too sometimes I think.

American in Germany, but I have lived here for several years, with a 1 year stint in PDX last year:slight_smile: Amazing city all around
Yeah, I know Flensburger, its OK, not my favorite. Rothaus is one of my favorite Pilsners.

    cheers:slight_smile:

Agreed, and cheers brother! Pipeworks is going to blow up (already is) and Half Acre has already been causing a stir outside of the IL so I couldn't agree more!

    Bradenton/Sarasota:

Motorworks Brewing Company: Solid beers with the largest house in the area for now
Darwin Brewing Company: Brewery location serving beers inspired by Peruvian flavors... watch out for these guys! They are bringing it.
Sarasota Brewing Company: Oldest in the area... starting to switch their style up to keep up with demand.
BigTop Brewing: Local boys cutting their teeth, and creating some buzz.
JDubs Brewing: My home brewery... what can I say. JDubs and Darwin are leading the pack for me, but others are giving them a run for their money.
Little Giant Brewing: Coming soon out on Anna Maria Island...

Then you still have all the St. Pete places with 30 minutes of me... Cycle, Green Bench, 3 Daughters, St Pete Brewing, ...

Within 40 minutes... Rapp, Pair O'Dice, Brewer's Tasting Room...
Within 45 minutes... Cigar City, Dunedin, Barley Mow...

    I feel blessed!

I had the CyclHops by Bacchus the other night... it was one of the best local beers I've had in a while.

I'm about a half hour south of Pittsburgh. Next time I'm on the North Side I can check. Might be worth the drive.

Spent a few years in Colorado and Wyoming. The beer scene out there as a whole is pretty incredible, but there are not hundreds of breweries than can hang with the best in the nation, there is a handful of decent breweries.

Well, being able to drink Rothaus regularly would be a big pleasure for me. I'm a Von Poelnitz- old German genes. Let me know where you are and I'll send you some NoDa Hop Drop'n Roll, if you like IPAs. It is amazing.. Cheers.

Being a denizen of Northwestern NJ, I'm minutes away from a great brewery, Angry Erik's. I'm responsible for 9 of their beers, and their location, being posted on BA. Their beer is solid, and I truly love their porter and their stout. From what I hear, there's a brewery that will open in the semi-near future in Hackettstown. I have high hopes for them as well. In Sparta you can find a half decent brew-pub. I feel fortunate to live where I do, and have access to small and large NJ craft brew.

Milwaukee: The actual brewing scene here is kind of "Meh." with highlights being Lakefront (Johnson was good but the hops dropped out within a month and some off-flavors dominated)and MKE(Do they have to put tea in so many beers?). BUT Wisconsin more than makes up for it with the following breweries/beers:

New Glarus: Scream just shot them to the top of my all-time favorite brewery list. All that was missing was a truly great hoppy beer.
Black Husky: Pale Ale, Sproose, Howler, Sparkly Eyes, Smoke Monster
Karben4: Fantasy Factory, Tokyo Sauna (hate the name, love the beer)
Lake Louie: Bunny Green Toe is the best Wisconsin IPA I've ever had
Lazy Monk: Old World lagers (and now some ales) in pint cans!
Toppling Goliath: Only state other than IA to get their beers. A few shops that are out of the way have it on the shelves almost all the time.

Still a ways to go before we match the level of nano-breweries/really solid small craft breweries that they have in Chicago, San Diego, Portland, or Denver. But the brewers are learning a lot and improving their beers quickly.

    North Texas:

Deep Ellum Brewing: some will tell you they have consistency issues. Others will tell you that they're "too cool for their own good." Both statements may have some truth to them. However, they've got a decent IPA, a very good DIPA, an enjoyable Pale Ale, solid Barleywine, and some good rotational/seasonal beers. Also, they led the charge in DFW (to my knowledge) and continue to help another DFW brewery get on their feet; that brewery I'll talk about next.

Armadillo Ale Works: small operation based in Denton, Tx. Brew/bottle out of Deep Ellum AND use their distro. Very generous on DE's part. They hit it out of the park with a fairly new Gold Stout/Coffee Ale - Brunch Money. Seriously good shit. Also have a very good shelf stout called Quakertown. I expect for them to continue and see success.

Community: very good offerings ranging from pale ale, IPA, pilsners, to a witbier. Their best offering is their Mosaic IPA. My favorite Texas IPA, and a constant in my fridge.

Lakewood: good offerings in general. But really, The Temptress and all of its variants are all that needs to be said. Very good.

Revolver: Blood & Honey. Love it. Mother's Little Fracker stout and it's BA variants. Very good.

So many more breweries and great beer bars/filling stations. The list above are some of my favorites, but plenty more to talk about. Maybe other DFW BAs will chime in with their opinions.
