Charlottesville, VA. Two excellent breweries, Champion and Three Notch'd, have opened within the city limits to join the fine offerings offered in Nelson County 25 minutes away, Blue Mountain, Devil's Backbone, and Wild Wolf. Heck, even the old standbys of Starr Hill and South Street have started to raise their game!

    Shout out to Indianapolis!

Sun King is consistent and an Indianapolis staple. Love love love grapefruit jungle!

Flat 12 is doing great things....including expanding down to SoIn.

Black acre is a truly unique place.

Bier brewery is out of this world...esp. Weizengoot and their DFG IPA.

Fountain square and indiana city are worth visiting.

Books and brews is the coolest bookstore I've ever been too!

And daredevil is coming to south Indy...and they are pretty kickass.

Much more, but you need to experience it for yourselves.

    Kudos Indianapolis!

Get ready to pay for it haha. It's like 36-38 a bottle, but has no carbonation so you can re-cork it without an issue.

The Triangle NC. We've got some great beers coming out of the area:

Steel String Big Mon IPA/Rubber Room Rye Session/Corn Whiskey Thickfreakness
    Bull City Burger BA Doppelbock
    Deep River Rum BA Wee-Heavy
    Crank Arm Unicycle Mosaic
Lynnwood Brewing Once You Go.... black IPA (won a gold at GABF)
White Street Koslch (also won a GABF medal)
Gizmo Beekeeper Honey Hefeweizen was really tasty
Carolina Brewery Sky Blue (Silver medal at GABF)
Carolina Brewing Nut Brown is tasty and unique
Big Boss Cabernet Barrel Aged Scarab
    Mash House Hefeweizen
Huske Hardware Sour Patch (Sour Strawberry)
    Fortnight Bitter

I only mentioned packaged beer with the exception of a few. I could go for days with things like Big Boss BA Aces & Ates Coffee Stout, Mash House Raspberry Porter/Apricot IPA/Apricot Hefe, and Top Of The Hill BA Blackwood Mountain Stout, but youre gonna get one-off treatments that live up to those.

If I missed any (like the dry-hopped BBA Flanders from Sub Noir comes to mind), I'm sorry.

    Just a mini synopsis.

    Cheers mates.

Pretty Spot-on. I like most of the stuff Flying Dog has and Heavy Seas, IMO, is pretty solid; but, overall, I think the scene needs a lot of improvement. This was further magnified for me when I moved out to San Diego about two months ago. The difference in the craft beer scene is stark.

Also, I am upset I that I can't get Dead Rise out here (it only distributes to MD, VA, and PA)...but people here don't "get" Marylanders' obsession with Old Bay.

Thanks for the heads up. A brewery on AMI would go over well but I can't imagine it could make money.

Atlanta really is becoming a great beer city. Next to Asheville, I would like to think it’s the next best scene in the Southeast. I'll give another opinion on Atlanta's recent growth:

The largest breweries in the area are SweetWater and Terrapin. SweetWater's most recent accomplishment of landing their canned beers on Delta Airlines will make them a true national player as they continue to grow. SweetWater's IPA and 420 are standards and their stouts are usually pretty good. Their Dank Tank series leaves something to be desired, but occasionally they knock one out of the park. Their most recent Johnny Hash was great!

Terrapin is an hour up the road in Athens, GA, but IMO is the best brewery in GA. Their lineup is solid with beers like Wake-n-bake and MooHoo, but they also make great hoppy beers. Monk's Revenge was a great Belgian IPA and when aged on wine barrels was one of my favorite beers of all-time. They also released the highly anticipated White Chocolate MooHoo and Cinnamon Roll'd WnB. The next follow-up will be an Imperial Pumpkin Pie Porter.

Red Brick would come next. I would say their last 2 years has been the brightest in their 20 year history. Their standard lineup is sub-par, but their barrel-aging program is the best in the state and they will be releasing their first bombers before the end of the year. They have done some interesting things with tea and beer. Beard Envy, their BB barleywine was absolutely amazing and is not even my favorite from their Brick Mason series.

Monday Night is really awesome. Their branding is fun and exciting and their brewery is probably my favorite to visit. After beginning to bottle in 2013, they have grown tremendously and just expanded their regular lineup to a 5th beer called Nerd Alert. Their BB aged version of the award winning Drafty Kilt (scotch ale) was amazing and their most recent Bed Head Coffee IPA is at the very least creative (not bad to drink either). I would say they are the brewery to watch in Atlanta.

Staying in town, I would say Wild Heaven and Three Taverns have provided great offerings, both with their own spins on American versions of Belgian beers. After contract brewing for several years, Wild Heaven opened up their own brewery (literally) two weeks ago and their Ode to Mercy is still one of my favorites. I’ll be interested to see what both breweries add in the next year.

Up I-75 are Red Hare (Marietta) and Jekyll (Alpharetta). Both breweries are reliable, but play it safe with what they choose to bottle/can. More unique offerings are only available in-house or at local growler stores. Neither is expensive and is worth the price of admission. The only other brewery that bottles is Jailhouse, which is south of ATL. What I’ve had is good, but I always forget about them.

Burnt Hickory, Orpheus, BlueTarp, Eventide, Strawn, Cherry St., and Creature Comforts are all still in a draft-only stage. I find Burnt Hickory to be a touchy-subject because people either absolutely fall in love with their beer or seem to get burnt-up about their hype. I personally have had great beer by Burnt Hickory and they must be doing something right, but overall I seem to side with the dissenters. Orpheus is the latest, greatest thing in town with fresh IPAs and a sour Plum Saison; they’ll be interesting to watch. Creature Comforts is still in the beginning stages with a Berliner Weiss as a featured beer.

Heretic brewing, Fairfield California. Evil Twin and Miscreant are outstanding beers that most of you will never see unfortunately.

Pardon me? I was fortunate enough to find some Bacchus on tap here in Ithaca and I can vouch for their pale ale and I would like to sample some more from them.

Steel String just added Zupfer, their first attempt at a Gose. A touch salty, but very good otherwise.

    Not really in any order:

Trillium - some of the best Pale Ales you can get in the region. IPA's and oatmeal porter rule as well
Jack's Abby - Framinghammer iterations, Rye Session, Hoponious Union, etc.
Treehouse - When you can't get up to VT, TH is pretty damn close. Anything by them is gold
Wormtown - Their Hopulence double IPA is one of the most underrated beers out there, IMO. Be Hoppier is amazing too.
Foolproof - Their King of the Yahd double IPA is another underrated gem. Porter is not bad either.
Pretty Things - Love their stouts, IPA's and barleywine
Newburyport Brewing - Their Greenhead single IPA is very nice
Berkshire Brewing Co - Their Russian Imperial is one of the best values on the market
Narragansett - Their Autocrat Coffee Milk Stout is a fantastic beer. I heard they're making it seasonal.

Had Bacchus as well and they are pretty decent. But no way I step foot in Dryden...that place gives me the creeps.

BTW Three Heads uses Custom Brewcrafters for bottling as well. CB's doesn't have the ability to date their brew so 3HB loses out on that.

From Seattle, I like how the area has really embraced the beer "culture" or scene throughout. They also support good events and charities. They stay local for supplies and ingredients as best they can. As others have said, we have such a wide array of specialists of breweries and stores that love Belgian, Lagers, English, Sours, virtually everything that we really are spoiled up here. One last note, I think it's great how they all seem to work together to help each other, big or small, and also do some collaborations =)

As far as the pic goes I'm a terrible photographer as anyone that follows me on untappd can tell you. The beer did all the work in that one. And if you think the pic looks good you should try it. It is insanely raspberry forward but perfect. So many berliners, wilds, sours etc. the "sourness" is the first thing that hits you. With Heavy Flow its the natural super juicy raspberry flavor that is in control. It's like biting into a fistful of fresh raspberries. Plus I'm a raspberry beer freak.
