a great bar got even better republic expands from 32 to 57 taps http://www.startribune.com/entertainment/blogs/149104115.html
That's good, hopefully they can rotate more. I didn't notice a frequent changeover on the menu the several times i've been there.
Still haven't been there, need to check it out. In my mind its still Prestons, so I never think of going.
It's pretty solid. They've been getting more adventurous lately. They almost always have a jolly pumpkin on tap now. They have some pretty solid beer specials as well.
Can't ever seem to get myself to go there when Town Hall is across the street. I might check it out, but only if the beer comes in a giant fish bowl.
The challenge for Republic will be keeping all of these beers fresh. I have no doubt that they are up for such a challenge. However, I did operate a similar business in the same part of town. We were always affected by the seasonality of our business in that part of Minneapolis. Republic just bit off a big mouthful. Best case scenario, they end up being a "Happy Gnome" in another part of town. Worst case scenario, they end up being more like a "William's Pub". Time will tell.
The advantage is that they have Town Hall and are a bit easier to get to from downtown. Now if there were only parking. In any case, my coworkers and I love Town Hall and love Republic. The fact that they are across the street from each other makes the decision even easier. Go to Republic and take advantage of their flight special and then pick up a Town Hall growler on the way out..or even better, stop for a pint while buying a growler.
Been here twice, once after eating at THB once after drinking at THB after their Czar Jack release. I was impressed with the beer list and the food. The place has good ambiance, good burgers too. I forget exactly what I drank, probably because I just had a glass of Czar Jack and couldn't think of much else after that goodness.
I don't think parking is too bad there if you park in the lot to the south west, 4 bones for 12 hrs of parking.
There's also on-street parking nearby with no meters, behind the big parking garage to the northwest. Might be a 2-hour limit. Can't understand why there's always so many empty spots. And... I just lost my parking spot. But better that it goes to another BA.
there is free parking? I usually get lucky with the metered parking in front of Bullwinkle's and if not, I use the hotel ramp. I didn't realize there was non-metered street parking behind the ramp. I will check that out!
