That's the info I got from them regarding their newest line up of available beers. Heady is really scarce, but they carry Resin from Sixpoint and think it's equal, or better than Heady Topper. (according to customer feedback). Any thoughts on this?? I've never sampled any of the two.

Having had each of them once, heady is way better

I agree. I preferred Heady to Resin. Both are damn good though.

Resin is a pretty crappy to middle-of-the-road DIPA, they taste nothing alike either. Heady is way better.

I'd be embarrassed to make such a bold claim.

i think the comparison was just made because of the cans, which really shouldn't matter.

Heady is my all time favorite beer. I bought a Resin once and didn't finish it. They're not even remotely in the same league.

Heady is a top tier DIPA, Resin is good but not top tier.

What's remotely comparable? Torpedo? Founders Double Trouble? DFH 90? Smutty Nose DIPA? Remotely comparable... Can't purchase Heady here. :slight_frown:

I had Heady a few times and it is pretty good, if not the best IIPA I've had. Resin was ok, but kinda boozy. Best way to answer your question is to get them both and judge for yourself.

I award the OP partial credit for using Heady Topper as a point of comparison instead of Pliny.

And a purely anecdotal segue, was drinking with two other beer advocates around the pool last weekend. Drank Heady & Rye Da Lightning back to back.

Rye won by split decision (2-1).

Take it with a grain of salt though, one of the beer advocates also said in said session that "Chocolate Rain, Black Tuesday, Dark Lord & CBS are all terrible beers."

Which to get this conversation further askew, for as good as Dark Lord is, I'm kinda surprised FFF isn't more known for their hoppy beers (Dreadnaught, Gumballhead, Rye da Lightning, Aeotara) . . . those are some world class beers. Well I've never drank Aeotara, just smelled it.

I thought Dreadnaught was the best DIPA ever. Granted I havent had PtY, Double Daisy Cutter, or Kern Citra.

I completely disagree with the first part of your statement. I absolutely LOVE Resin. I thought it was fantastic, and is, by far, my favorite DIPA that I can easily get. I don't consider it as good as Heady, but I wouldn't say it's crappy(or even middle of the road). Of those that I've had, I would consider Resin to be a top 10 DIPA.

Torpedo and Double Trouble have a bit too much of a rough bitterness. 90 minute and Big A are too malty. Heady provides a big, bright tropical/citrus flavor, the bitterness to balance and is more drinkable than many DIPAs due to the lower ABV (8ish). You will not find an adequate replacement, but there may be something that will be somewhat close. 2XIPA maybe? Somewhat similar profile (tropical fruit and low malt) and lower ABV for the style.

You may be better served simply finding a DIPA you enjoy and stick with it rather than trying to replace a Heady experience.

Not even close, Heady blows it away.

EDIT: Also, I really don't understand the love for Dreadnaught. I've had it a few times now, including on tap, and always found it mediocre-to-bad. My tastes normally run pretty close to BA's on IPAs, but the love for that beer baffles me.
